Fernwood Holiday Park

We stayed in a 2-bedroom cabin which was well-appointed with comfortable beds, clean towels, roomy lounge area, good kitchen and bathroom. No complaints and found the owners / staff very friendly and helpful. We used the communal laundry and had other friends staying elsewhere in the park, everything clean and tidy and no issues with noise.

Great value for money

If you are a family with small children I highly recommend you visit somewhere else. 
This park has no noise control even though in previous reviews the owner has said that they check on things after 10pm, we saw no one.  We had 3 nights of people checking in after 10pm and then setting up tents,talking loudly and then sitting having dinner until after 12 and this doesn’t include the guests already set up having a party. And the noisey road (which the camp cannot control) and you have kids waking up periodcally. 
On the plus side it is a clean camp but we won’t be visiting again

Not Happy

Were looking for a place to stay the night and were quite late. On our arrival it was all dark and quiet, so we decided not to stay there. Suddenly lights turned on, and a woman appeared. We reversed the car, got flipped off and the husband came to us. We reversed back out since he was walking straight to out car and we were scared.
He even followed us on the street and told us to “f u * k  off” and yelled other stuff.
Went to the next one across, were super friendly.

Got yelled at at the entrance.

We booked this place as part of our South Island Tour for Jan 2020, four months in advance. Now we get a cancellation notice of our booking. No reason given, but the room is still advertised at a higher rate!
Is this because we are foreign or just a chance to grab more money?
Out of interest I am a new zealander living abroad and wanting to show my family my lovely hospitable country. Obviously things have changed!
Be aware everyone as this has messed up our holiday, don't let them mess yours

Cancellation

Accommodation was not neither cheap nor expensive, but I'd expect a bit more comparing what we got. Host was very kind and willing, but the shack we got was very small for 4 people also wifi connection was a bit slow.

Not worth the price

It was a comfortable stay but no frills. The kitchen and toilets were clean. It is located close to the main road so it can be noisy at night. A place to stop over but not to stay for more than a day or two.

A comfortable stay

Very rude. Drove away after first interaction. Drove in and lady yelled at us telling us we weren’t welcome in New Zealand. Won’t be returning drove up the road and neighbor campsite was very friendly.

Won’t be returning

Dirty and smelly bathroom. 
Extremely noisy. 
Small cabin.
Useless apliances in the room, such as a toaster and boiler - no Water in the room. 
TOWels are not included.
You have to pay to take a shower.  ( NZD 0.50 for six minutes).
