My short (1 night) visit didn't do this lovely place justice! Comfortable, spacious and elegant with lots of extra little touches to make you feel welcome. The friendly and informative hosts provided a deliciously fresh, and large, breakfast. Milton House is out of town but a short walk to the esplanade at St Claire's where there are a number of places to eat.

Luxury!

Milton House is a beautifully refurbished mid-1800's home that has kept the charm of the period while providing all the modern conveniences that traveler's appreciate.  We stayed there 3 nights on a recent trip to Dunedin and honestly they were the best 3 nights of our whole 3 week trip.  The room was spacious and had a beautiful view of the ocean.  It had a nice private bath and lots of little extra's that made the stay so relaxing and enjoyable.  The attention to detail was refreshing.  A wonderful breakfast is served on fine china in the dining room with a cosy fire going in the fireplace.  Afternoon tea was such a relaxing experience and the pastries were wonderful.  A nightcap of wine or brandy and such is also available as you head off to bed for the evening.  It is an easy walk into St. Clair where there are many good resturants and bars and well as a beautiful beach.and it is only about a 10 minute drive into the city center.  I would highly recommend this place to anyone traveling to Dunedin..

Downton Abbey with all the modern conveniences!  Perfect!

I enjoyed very much staying here. The location is quiet and sunny, close to the beach and the saltwater pool. The house is surrounded by a garden. Breakfast and afternoon tea is served by the fireplace, with nice treats like newspapers and a bottle of wine. Ali is very welcoming and friendly. Recommended.

Hospitality close to the beach

It's a little out of the way,a short walk to the beach, we had a car so out of the city suited us. Absolutely charming room, contemporary bathroom, Ali, the host was extraordinary, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was a delight homemade bread, scones jam, and salmon omelet. We would have been happy to pay $35 a head for the quality of breakfast.
Beautiful, original Victorian House. A delight, look forward to going back to NZ so we can stay there again.

Absolutely charming

We recently stayed at Milton House for three nights. We decided at short notice to visit Dunedin and after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor thought Milton House would be a lovely place to stay (of course the trip advisor contributors were correct again, it is beautiful!)

The hosts, Ali and Richard were extremely helpful with directions, suggestions of things to do in the region, were always ready to have a chat (but also left us to ourselves) and provided a lovely breakfast each morning. The variety of breakfast was terrific, everything we wanted was available, we didn't need lunch any day!

The house itself was built in 1883 and has been restored to a high standard but still retains the charm of yesteryear. The weather was warm but we would imagine that in the winter it would be a cosy home. We were upgraded to the Campbell room as we were the only guests at that time, this room had an ensuite and a lovely view. I had a quick peek at the other rooms and they were all unique but all lovely in their own way. The other rooms do not have an ensuite but both have dedicated bathrooms very close to the bedrooms, so not really a problem.

There is tv in each bedroom which has the free to air channels however the sky channels are available in the guest lounge. It was fun watching the cricket world cup with our hosts!

The house is in St Clair, a short distance from the centre of the city but easy to get around if you have a car. It is a very short walk to the beach, nice to have an early morning walk and watch the surfers and there are also several restaurants overlooking the water.

We cannot speak highly enough of how much we enjoyed our stay with Ail and Richard, it was like a home way from home and we would stay there again without hesitation!

Fantastic Place to Stay!

...it's here! the location is in a very good, well-maintained residential area. you can walk to the beach and to good restaurants in 5 minutes. the house is beautifully restored. the rooms are very beautiful, generous and perfectly equipped. the bathrooms are new and very clean. great beds. the breakfast is very tasty. every day the breakfast table is presented with a lot of love and great dishes and dishes. we were the only guests at the time and had the beautiful breakfast room for us. ali even always made us a fireplace. it was very cozy. ali and richard are lovely guests. we would be happy to welcome you back.

I highly recommend...

Extremely nice hostess and a grand, homemade breakfast. The house has been lavishly and lovingly restored by the owners and is very romanticly furnished. A real piece of jewelry. Highly recommended.
