 Excellent service, clean rooms, no restaurant service, it's self-service, you get two keys, the access key and the room key, it's a little out of service routes, but generally has a good price and clean.

This hotel that doesn't look like a hotel has a few rooms each of which is different, very minimalist, zero noise, you get the external keys and you enter the hotel at the time you want, without waiting for it to open, clean, excellent care, outside of the ordinary, with what is needed to spend a night of rest.

A small, quiet hotel.

Because far from being a demanding and pretentious person, the suites, even though the concept is good, lack much maintenance and cleanliness. The smell of the bathrooms is damp, impossible to fit between the sheets that felt and looked dirty; there is no surveillance and it is incredible that there is no insurance inside the suites. Very noisy! I would pretend to stay for two weeks and only last 5 days. Definitely not. The manager or person who responds to these reviews, without harassing and contending, should be grateful for their comments as a form of feedback.

For people who are more relaxed

The suites are an excellent option for resting, the rooms are very comfortable and the location is the best near the most important shopping centers.I had booked in a normal suite, but I was assigned a master suite which was very spacious and also had a kitchenette (a good option if you like to carry a snack with you)

Rest and location

booked two suite (loft rooms) on bookings.com. when we arrived we are told there is only one loft room. the other room is a master room.  but of course we were billed the same rate even though there rate for the master is posted as cheaper. they have a great web designer who took good pictures.  this place is not as in the pictures.
 1.beds are hard
2.furniture broken in the room
3. had to get a heater for rooms, but only one was available.
4. bathroom has bad mildew smell.

this place was a good idea, but it is not well maintained. avoid at all costs.

How this ever got the rating it did is beyond me. The rooms were dirty, even the sparse dishes had food still stuck to them! The mattress was hard as a rock! We had 3 pillows that were seriously 8x8.  After 5 no staff is available.  Difficult to find and super noisy.  No way in hell I would ever let my dog stay here. The chair in our room was torn so you could not even sit in it.  There was literally a beer can laying at our front door when we arrived. No toilet paper in the room and no ice available we had to walk 4 blocks for some.  Seriously the worst stay ever.  The website does wonders for this dump.

Horrid

The hotel is very nice, accessible to go anywhere, quiet, the service is good even if it needs accessories, such as hooks, wardrobe, and a king size bed as they are very small in space. Room 3 is very nice, only the detail that has no more than a chair, air enters through an opening in a corner that looks outwards, and only a rug on one side of the bed.

Perfect rest.

Casa Mata Urban Suites is a very small boutique-ish hotel situated in a non descript and discreet neighborhood adjacent to Morelia's corporate retail zone.  The shopping mall is a 10 minute walk away.  I stayed during the last weekend of February 2012.  I gambled a bit because based on the location, I really did not know what to expect.  Reservations were made via email correspondance and the response was prompt.

Upon arrival, I was given a warm welcome by the manager/owner.  Right away, she made check in easy and as a bonus, inadvertently acted as a concierge as well.  All of the hotels particulars were clearly and concisely explained to me.

Once given the keys, the room (the junior suite with king bed) was spacious, the decor was minimalist, but well chosen, and of course, clean.  Bathroom toiletries were first rate.  The window across from the bed gave a beautiful view of the rooftop patio. The lanscaping there is expertly done and had a calming effect.  

The check in area also acted as a juice/coffee/beer bar and beverages were available to be enjoyed in the patio in front of the hotel.  In fact, I was quite surprised that the manager invited me one night to purchase some beers and enjoy them with her and her friends.  This experience was a real treat.  Interactions with hotel staff rarely go beyond the official and formal.  Clearly, this was a good exception.

The above night was indicative of my whole stay at Casa Mata.  It was a less of a hotel experience and more of a stay with friends feeling.  No aloof or intimidating hotel staff, just wonderful people who treat you like friends and help you have a good stay.

The manager's english is acceptable and should not be a problem for any english speaker who prefers a more alternative urban experience in a major Mexican city like Morelia.

I highly recommend this hotel to anyone and I'm looking forward to booking my next stay in Morelia again later this year.

PS: This hotel is friendly to the young, hip, gay, straight, cultured, male, female, etc ad nauseum.  The clientele is a great mix of contemporary minded Mexicans and the once in a while foreigner like myself.
