Went last March 2017, it was a last minute decision to go stay,visit Kyoto. One of the best and lovely host that I met in Japan. I couldn't remember all but Yuya and all the ladies are very warm and welcoming. Its a small and cozy guest house with cute designs. Stayed at the 2nd floor mixed bedroom. My only concern is the limited bathroom, a recommendation to add would be terrific. Short distance on the bus stop and has a lot of stores nearby. Has free breakfast (bread, jams) and coffee, tea. Since its a small hostel you get to meet almost everyone staying, hangout in the kitchen, got acquainted. Free wifi and rental of wifi pockets. Overall, a very pleased traveler. Budget friendly on a sakura month

Didn't realise that the splendour of Japan's Autumn foliage can result in affordable accommodation in Kyoto being 'sold out'.  In booking late I found Guest House Sendo that had their 'VIP room' available for the dates I wanted.  On reflection it was a good choice considering I normally book 3/4 star accommodation.  The VIP room was a double room with free standing bath and shower.  Some limited space for luggage and hanging clothes.  Very soft mattress. Had to share bathroom and kitchen.  The latter provided a great place to touch base with other travellers who were back-backing around Japan or Asia.  The guest house is not the most central but has great bus and train links that allow you to get some key attractions.  Yura and his team were very helpful with advice and I liked some of the quirky, shabby chic décor.  Overall the pleasant stay.

Guest House Sendo -Kyot's Budget Bolthole

I was there last October for three days visiting Kyoto with my girlfriend. The place is not the fanciest one but you feel really great there because is so cozy and the man in charge there Yuya is a great guy very helpful and communicative. I really recommend it since very convenient and cheap as well!!

Yuya is the best host ever

I only stayed for one night in this house... but I was surprised... warmth to the maximum, always with a printed smile... good general cleaning, they also offer breakfast and the possibility of using their kitchen and their refrigerator... good position for those who want to see the holy places, but there is a bit to walk to the buses (10/15 Minutes) located in a very quiet area.

It's a great stay.

Apart from its situation, this guest house is on the edge of the living quarters. Overcrowding is hard to live with: kitchen size, 2 showers!

Very small

How to get there: from Kyoto Station take the Karasuma Line subway to the north and get off at the second Shijo stop, then change and take the Hanku Line to the west and get off at the Saiin station. You can also get there by bus or tram, but it's better to ask the tourist information you'll find at the station from the center staff. The experience is absolutely worth doing, especially if you want to socialize and feel the familiar sense that this environment offers.

Positive experience - it's really a shared home!

We were a group of 5 people and we slept in the mixed bedroom that could accommodate 10 or 12 people (I don't remember very well). The beds were very uncomfortable, the worst we ever had in Japan. The bedroom is really small, there's not even enough room for all the suitcases closed so imagine in the morning when everyone opens their suitcase to get their stuff... Besides, there's not enough takeout to have one person in the bedroom. Also, there's only 2 showers for the whole hostel, we're always in line. Finally, there's only room for 5 people in the kitchen which is the only small room that the hostel can accommodate... so there's a lot of uncomfortable people in the bedroom.
