Mesten Tamarind Hotel Nusa Dua Bali

The welcome at this hotel was excellent, very warm and charming. The staff showed eagerness to be helpful. The room was very spacious, bright and airy, very clean and comfortable. It had every thing one needs, a big comfy bed, a TV in good working order although only a couple of foreign channels were available. There was a big desk and chair, bedside lamps that did work although the bracket on the wall was a bit loose, probably due to the fact that the light shade was at the wrong height which meant banging one's head into it on a few occasions. There was a very good wardrobe and I particularly liked the sitting area by the window with a little table and chairs and a nice view to the sea. The bathroom was fine, hot shower (always a bonus!) and everything working as it should. The only drawback was that the hand-basin wasn't in the bathroom next to the shower and loo, instead it was oddly in a corner of the bedroom with no flat surfaces around it to put wash bags. Otherwise, the room was services everyday, the towels changed regularly and the bed freshly made up. It was nice to be given some water on a daily basis and a little tray of fruits (just upon arrival). The WiFi didn't work properly in the room, which was a problem. This room itself was at the foot of the stairs leading up to the breakfast room/restaurant area. Luckily, not many people used the stairs, so there wasn't much disturbance from that. However, the room is directly below the restaurant area and you could hear the sound of chairs scraping the floor in the morning. As for the restaurant itself, it's all open, which gives a nice view in the morning but in the evening, it is very draughty and quite chilly. It is also very dark, due to poor lighting, which isn't very inviting. The food, it's ok but nothing special. However, the main member of staff was very helpful and it was nice to be able to have a meal in the room if desired. Regarding the location, it is a nice quiet area, no problems with mozzies at night, no traffic and no cockerels close-by so you could get a good night's sleep. We missed the lack of little cafes/places to eat within walking distance. There was a small warung next to the hotel and it was tempting to eat there as the food the lady was cooking looked very nice but there were flies continuously hovering round and landing on the food, so we abstained... The location is good is you have your own transport but if you like to walk, the nearest beach (18/20mn walk) isn't very nice, best to go to Geger beach. The main Nusa Dua beach is further on still. So the location was a bit of a disappointment in that respect. Overall, it's a very good hotel for a shortish stay.
