If you want a large generic hotel in the center of town, this is not for you. If you want a small, modern, family-run hotel with a lot of character, this is for you. There is a French-themed restaurant on site and the building formerly was a warehouse. Location is walkable from the Durlach station. Very friendly owners. Excellent breakfast. Besides the on site restaurant, there are several others nearby.

Beautiful small hotel

On the way to Alsace, we stayed in the oxen. We enjoyed the hotel and restaurant very much. We felt as if we had already arrived in France.

It's all right!

This is a small hotel with beautifully appointed rooms, with character and a good change from the mass-standardised hotel chains. The rooms are very cozy and comfortable with an excellent bathroom, neatly combining modern comfort with a traditional feel. The breakfast room (in the restaurant, which I truly felt sorry for not having the chance to try) is also amazing, and what a pleasure to arrive for breakfast and your table set already with freshly squeezed orange juice, bread, jams, cold cuts, cheese, yoghurts, cereals, fruit, cake, etc. and eggs upon order and freshly brewed coffee. Will certainly come back for business and holidays alike!

Amazing with character

We stayed in this hotel from December 1 to 2, 2018. The first room we were assigned was filled with a bad fecal odor, which was also very disturbing to the housekeeping lady. She immediately took care of repairs and offered us another room. This one presented itself without smell in a renovated and clean condition. The beds and bathroom are particularly recommended. There was no shower gel, body lotion and a bottle of water that was standard for a hotel of this price class. There is no breakfast buffet, breakfast is served here and was not above average, but the park at the hotel is sufficient for this time of year.

The price-performance ratio isn't right at this hotel!

I visited this classic/boutique hotel for one night in the autumn. The lack of reception or waiting for a available waiter in the restaurant did not suit me well after a long journey, but the room and especially the night's rest balanced that. All in all, the hotel To the Ox has gotten a little too old for me in terms of carpets, curtains & Co. But perfectly recommended for one night.

Classical and elegant, somewhat dusted

Since I had to make business appointments in Karlsruhe, I was staying in this fine little hotel. A wonderful surprise, because this hotel is really something special. Each room is a little jewel for itself and the decoration of the staircase is also designed with a lot of attention to detail. The owners are very friendly and hospitable and the breakfast was delicious and varied. Late at the homemade cream brulee, it happened to me. A small shortcoming was there for me: I was staying in one of the two upstairs rooms. Here, however, there were really hours, thankfully, there was an air conditioning. But these were all a 4-5 second long, but the noise of it was all about me, but what prevented me from falling asleep at the top. Otherwise, it was all about me!

A wonderful surprise

On the day of my arrival (yesterday) I was informed by phone in the morning that the hotel had cancelled my room because of overbooking. I had booked weeks (January 15) in advance and on the day of arrival I will be informed about this. Several times I was then asked to cancel my booking at booking.com. A villain who thinks bad about it. A very unseemly business deal. Probably this would not have happened to me if I had booked directly. Is a booking.com customer, a second class? In this hotel I will not notice that anymore. There are other good hotels in Karlstu Durlach!

Input or output

A beautiful hotel. The rooms are named after French wine regions.  I had Burgundy, on the 4th floor (walkup).  It was nicely appointed and comfortable.  I had a shower and small tub, writing desk and 3 Windows which opened.  

I never did figure out the climate control, but I'm sure had I asked, that would have been worked out 

Breakfast was table-served.  Eggs-to-order, fresh orange juice, a selection of breads, jams and yogurts, as well as a small meat and cheese board and bowl of muesli each morning.  Wonderful coffee.

Rooms are appointed differently, as I had a closet, my colleague had a coatrack and hangers.  I had a shower, she had a tub with handheld sprayer.  I had a sitting area, where she did not.  Room rates were the same.

We had a lovely 3 night stay, including brealfast, for 330 euros.

Try the bitter orange marmalade at breakfast

This hotel was a surprise. Loving for every detail, it felt both historic and modern through reconstruction, architectural diversity and high-quality execution. Every detail tells a story, only when you looked out the window, there were no horse-drawn carriages. We were well taken care of and thanked the young man with a French accent. He was mad at the well-being of the guests. For the broken air conditioning system, he couldn't take anything, it was Sunday and no one could be taken to repair. It wasn't so nice, but we were relieved by a bombastic breakfast. The breakfast was made with love and thanksgiving. We were happy and thankful and went out again and we stopped at Anne's and we thanked her for this amazing and wonderful meal.

Very nice, tasty hotel

We arrived in Germany with my husbands parents and friends of ours who had their wedding supper here 30 years ago recommended we stay at this lovely hotel.  The food was very delicious and the service was exceptional!  The Familie Jollit own a superb hotel and restaurant!  They are very friendly people and speak excellent English.  We felt very pampered and well taken care of during our stay.  The breakfast is a wide variety of perfectly prepared and served items, I would  highly recommend this hotel and restaurant!!!
