Manoir de L'Hermerel

Our week's stay here was perfect. The house is stunning, beautifully kept, and we just couldn't get over how lucky we were to have found it. It was like lodging in a National Trust property! Our hosts were fabulous, and I know everyone keeps on about the breakfasts, but... wow. My tummy is rumbling just remembering the fresh crusty bread and local cheeses. I still pine for Pave d'Insigny. With the fresh juice, cider and apple brandy made by Simon, there's a lovely side-line business on site, the shop is inside the very old dove house, and Agnes will happily allow you to sample what you like. Set in idyllic rurality, you can walk beyond the confines of the farm and away. Being in such an historic region allows for quiet contemplative reflection on the events of 1944, and if you're in Normandy for this reason, I can't recommend Manoir de L'Hermerel enough. It is the perfect base for being out and about all day, and the small town of Grancamp Maisy is a five minute drive away, as is the Maisy battery. So you're right in the thick of it. Perfect.
