Villa Dihovo

Carefully restored farm with a lovely garden. Peče and hiš family is very attentive, providing Guests with excellent home made meals and wine. Rooms are inviting with rustical lfurniture and comfortable beds.the village od quiet but excellent štartnih Point gor visiting the mountains, forest, ski resort.

Excelent service, good higyene, the rooms are comfortable and the food and drinks are homemade  natural and very tasty. Deffinitely recommended for familly trips, solo, friends or a romantic partner. The owners are very friendly also.

Stay here if you want to sample genuine family hospitality and amazing home cooked food. The rooms were simple, comfortable and very clean. When we stayed in September, the vines were groaning with grapes and the garden was at its most abundant. A tranquil and relaxing time.

A beautiful place with Homemaid wine and beer. You sit and eat in their garden with the mountains surronding you. Nice Macedonian food that is organic. The owner is very friendly and speaks very good english.

We were welcomed by the owner and his lovely dog Leon. Had a great lunch and dinner and enjoyed the wine and the wine cellar. The rooms are basically but all your needs are met and they are spacious. Did a nice walk through the village to a waterfall. I would heartily recommend this place.

Nice setting up in the hills above Bitola city center and cooler in the summer. Villa Dihovo is set up around an old farmhouse and an organic garden. The hosts serve snacks and dinner as well as rakia and wine made on the site. Great food.

The rooms were clean but the walls between the rooms are thin, maybe one plaster board. You can hear everything in the room next door so best to request a room with no neighbors.

Arriving at this hidden gem within easy reach of the city of Bitola we instantly fell in love with the small cosy Villa and Garden.  The host was so friendly and relaxed showing us the wine cellar that was 90 years old and regulated to the perfect temperature for wine.  

The room was as old as the house, beautiful furnishings made from wood with an original rustic feeling but with a modern bathroom.  The view of the mountain was not spectacular though very peaceful.  We drank a homemade beer in the garden with a super friendly dog that we adored.

The first night we ate in the City and had an average meal in a bistro but was looking forward to the slow eating experience.  The first morning we had a breakfast in the garden of simple eggs salad and cheese with homemade butter and jam with freshly blended water melon and mint juice, was really lovely and not too heavy.  That evening after a 5 or 6 hour hike we returned to a table with two other couples for our dinner, there were stuffed peppers rice in vine leaves and homemade sausage along with salad  vegetables.  Although it was all tasty and fresh we did remain slightly hungry.  We drank homemade wine and enjoyed the evening.  Next morning we had French toast and Banitsa  which we found oily and heavy.

The following mornings the standard of the breakfast simply disappeared we had boxed sugary juice and weak coffee with tiny portions and on the final morning we were presented with 3 hard boiled eggs and bread. The other evening meal we had there was a salad and a small bowl of homemade stew not unpleasant but disappointing.

In summary we felt highly unimpressed by the food experience and then had to decide on how much we should pay.  We decided on a price that matched a local restaurant but then we got hit by the price on the wine we had been drinking.  Then on our final morning were told that the homemade wine was 12 Euro for white and 15 Euro for red.  This may sound middle priced or even cheap depending on where you are from but considering prices around the country and the quality of what we drank it came as a shock, meaning our wine bill exceeded the price of the room.  So what to make of this experience,  stay and enjoy the bed and breakfast in such a beautiful location but do not be overly taken in by the food and drink experience or you will be disappointed.

Comfortable bed, good food, wine, and homemade beer. A little difficult to find. Follow the signs and not so much the GPS. Great Macedonian fare served with breakfast included. Dinner served communally giving one the chance of meeting travellers from all over the world.

Excellent stay

Great spot for a rustic relaxing time

Nice place, tidy rooms above average, but owner Pece seemed to care more about the groups that come only for a short visit and don't stay overnight. We stayed for two nights and were shown around after we had arrived. Food was good, sausage fantastic, but not extraordinary altogether. We felt a bit awkward, as we had to ask for everything (food, wine etc.). There are no price lists or menu, which was okay for us as there is a "pay what you think" policy (at least for accommodation), as it reads on their website. But when we checked out, we were charged 40€ for the room per night, only the food price was "pay what you think". Wouldn't complain though if we'd felt at home, but this was strange. In short: Place is beautiful, rooms also very nice, but all those Lonely Planet praises seem to have gone to Pece's head.

Don't believe the hype

Ok lets start with facts (the good part). Dihovo’s Stunning surroundings, which make a great base if you wish to discover Macedonia i cant recommend it enough its a sublime country.
The rooms at Dihovo are simple and well kept, and Pece clearly has a great thing going here. I was informed by him of how great life is, and his vineyards on numerous occasions. You are well catered for (i had breakfast and dinner most evenings), and it was always tasty and filling. But I really am inclined to agree fully with the words of a reviewer - i leafed through a few reviews before beginning my own - which are that maybe Pece is taking his eye off the ball/given himself a big head from rave reviews in The Lonely Planet? (my guide for getting me here). Or quite simply threw down the charm offensive, which is only reserved for when he feels its worth his while.

So now some facts (not so good part). I arrive in the evening and tell him i plan to stay 9 days. Dinner and wine is whipped out immediately for which i am grateful for both. Lonely planet informs its readers that Pece operates an easy going pay what you feel kinda joint, this is doubled down by Pece, to me in person the evening I arrive. However being British this doesn't sit well with me, too much or too little, my head was swimming. The next morning i ask if we can agree a cost. After lots of words from Pece it sounds to me €30 per night, bed and half board plus a little cheeky small glass of vino thrown in. Sound, sorted...... so i thought.
The following 8 days he has little to no interest at all really. In me, my stay, what I'm up too, if I needed any help or guidance. Answering some questions I might of had. Again curse of the British, I did nothing to
confront this I just did everything the hard way sometimes it being refreshing as a pat on the back to myself for being resourceful. Other times stressful.
To boot, I was seriously unwell for 36hrs and unwell for a further 3 days. Pece nonchalants was zero comfort.
Now the ‘peace de resistance’ time to settle the monies. It starts with a small dispute over monies I gave him - at my insistence - in the middle of my stay. He accuses me of giving him €40 less than i knew i gave him. We resolve this easy enough, fine. I give him the remaining €150 for my stay. I am then told that there is a food and wine bill to pay. Long story short, after a lot of awkward and gestations, €54 euros is the figure

Now please let me state €324 for 9 nights with breakfast and dinner + a cheeky little glass of red here and there is a steal in anyones books. Im not travelled enough to gauge this. Were this, or even more, to be the outlined cost from the get go I would of happily gone for it. But what leaves such a bad taste in the mouth is the way the situation is set about from the start. I felt that Villa Dihovo is not quite what your told it is. I was left with a feeling of being ever so slightly hoodwinked. 
So i really think Pece and Lonely Planet need to update so people know what they are walking into. Because with the right attitude toward EVERYONE, this place could be Macedonias finest
So as for me returning next year with 4 of my friends, I’ll be looking for elsewhere
