Patio Palafito

I spent a few days in the City of Castro in the Island of Chiloé and while being there I had the chance to visit this amazing stilt house. The area is calm, near the city, and of course next to the water. Good, if you're looking for an affordable place to stay while visiting Castro.

Everything about this hostel is great! The only thing I can complain about is that there were no lockers to put valuables in. This only became a worry as somebody we met had money stolen from her. Apart from the that the hostel is really cool. Great position, gorgeous views, well equipped kitchen & friendly staff!

This was a bit on the pricey side for us but it was worth it...

Pros
- clean and minimal rooms
- the double room downstairs had a great heater plus there was a fire in the entrance so it was easy to dry your wet clothes (and this is Chiloe so you will have wet clothes to dry)
- great service... English speaking, super helpful and super friendly
- great communal area overlooking the water... small kitchen but sufficient and a fire, and a lovely deck if you get a sunny day
- good breakfast with yummy homemade bread
- wifi is fine and there is also a computer you can use
- it's a Palafito! Full of character and the thing to do in Castro

Cons
- little bit pricey
- no towels
- it is an uphill walk into town so that may not suit the less mobile traveller

I would definitely recommend and would have loved to have had a break in the rain so that we could have used their kayaks.

A short walk from the city center (but VERY steepy). Rooms are very small, but good enough to sleep. There is heating and hot water and a small grocery store less than a minute away. Helpful owner and staff. 

Very nice view from the commom area and very good breakfast. Instant coffee and tea available anytime.

Good Hostel

Really cool hostel!

excellent experience

Great environment with an amazing view

Stayed 1 night in a 4 bed mixed. Just one other person was in the room at this time,with 4 people and all the luggage a little bit tiny. No lockers! Leaves you with a weird feeling with all your stuff open in the room. Whole hostel can be noisy with more people around,walls kind of thin,washing bassins in front of the rooms. Nice small terrace at the water. Breakfast the usual,ok.

The staff at Palafito Sur are really friendly, the atmosphere's good and the location is great with a view of the sea from the huge windows in the kitchen. My main concern, however, is that there are no lockers in the dorms. A girl in our dorm had a lot of money stolen from the room. There was also no curtain on our window which looked into the kitchen, meaning it was very light and noisy in the room both late at night and early in the morning.
