Bed bugs, dirty bathroom and kitchen and bad smell just about everywhere, and if that's not enough, the male receptionist asked me if "I was sure I didn't bring the bugs with me" in an openly discriminatory way, as I am not white. I'm sure he wouldn't have said that to a white person. He made me take my suitcase when leaving inside a plastic bag. No manners, no education and no respect for customers. Thankfully I was refunded for the second night that I was going to stay in that dump

Better pay the extra 15 or 20 dollars for a decent place

I stayed for one week while on business. This place is advertised as both hostel and B&B, however, there is nothing positive to about the space and management. The on site manager, Diane, is a deeply troubled individual, many times during my stay under the influence of drugs and or alcohol. These influences cast Diane in a very negative light. Loud, needy, erratic and would often violate my space.

The owner, Eric, very early one morning also exhibited abusive behaviour to his employee, where he berated her with abusive language.

The neighbourhood sees a vast number of impoverished and marginalized population as well. Never felt threatened, but the sight of such depravity can be unsettling.

I found the owner of the property to be drunk and making lewd comments towards me.  The , so called manager, a homeless former psychiatric patient.  The place is clean, but the environment outside of the front door enlists drug and alcohol addicts.  This place is very small with only 6 beds available.  The owner also owns the helpless shelter a block away.  This hostel is far from being worth more than $5.00 a night, if that.  I felt in danger most of my stay.  It is very close to the VIA Rail station, but highly suggest staying elsewhere.   I've stayed in hostels all over the world and have never come in contact with an uncomfortable place such as this.  The WIFI is non-functional.  The owner tells you what you can watch on TV.   Basically, it should be shut down.

Dangerous place to stay

As others have mentioned it is very close to the Via Rail station when on the Skeena train from Jasper to Prince Rupert & is a great price.  However unlike the other travellers I did not get a great feeling from this accommodation.  I am a female travelling alone & something was just off with the vibe for me. I also did not like the fact that the shower is glass fronted facing the door into the bathroom - a door that does not have a lock & opens onto main corridor & managers private bathroom - and the way in which he told me to make sure the door was shut when showering so I/he wasn't embarrassed just didn't sit right with me (possibly where the 'off vibe' came from!). I would suggest paying wee bit more sharing a taxi with others on the train - and stay somewhere else!

Could not recommend for solo female travellers.

I slept two nights on my trip to Canada. It's a little weird because it's someone's house. But the staff is very nice, not so talkative but friendly. I've been in a two-room apartment.

Tip top

Stayed here on my way through to Prince Rupert by train.   It is extremely close to the train station which is super convenient for backpackers.  It is also conveniently located to downtown core,  Farmer's Market, etc.  The managers were very kind and helpful.   The hostel is well maintained in an old residential building.  The bathrooms were very clean,  and spacious and never a que.  It was quiet for sleeping and comfortable.  The facilities are good,  however I could see this place being a prime choice even for families if the kitchen and lounge areas were expanded and made bigger, more commercial like with an outdoor patio or lounge area.  Without a car,  it is not easy to find good swimming holes and with a pool (the owner also has s pool business) and a few upgrades feel like this could be a premier choice for travellers n PG.  I would definitely choose this place again and recommend it.
