Decided on a drink on the balcony of this beautiful old hotel. Ordered dinner. What can I say it was just plain awful. I had a pasta dish which came swimming in a chilly sauce....no lie, it was like the 'chef' had just tipped a bottle of sauce over the whole dish. It was so bad that I couldn't eat it so my hubby swapped his meal. He can eat anything but he couldn't manage this! I tried his Pork Belly. Crispy crackling very good but the rest was woeful. Undercooked pork & carrots so hard I couldn't even cut them with my knife. When the lovely waiter asked how our meals were, I had to be honest & tell him. We were given a complimentary drink. Got taking to some locals who told us that this place can be hit & miss with food. Two chefs. One of which is not so good! Would not eat here again. Sorry.

Food below average

We stayed in one of the front rooms for 1 night and our friends stayed in the adjoining family rooms. Very comfortable, clean, nice white sheets, great value for money. Would highly recommend. Especially if you are an architectural buff, beautiful grand staircase, lots of plaster moulding, stunning! Have had meals here before which have been good but this time the pub was closed as it was Anzac Day.

Historic hotel

at night and also during the day we could hear the rats inside the walls scratching the walls, the doors opened, even if they were locked, as they walked, the floor creaked it seemed that we were falling at any moment.  The microwave made the noise of a tank and did not heat up, the services (shower and toilet) women are out and in the evening with the cold it was not at all comfortable.  I had an allergic reaction and I had to go to the hospital with an ambulance and the owner was really not polite or respectful towards me, as if it was my fault and not the fault of the cook who used the same utensils used for the pasta  with chicken.  If one day I return I will NEVER go to this hotel again

After a long mind bending day we decide to go out for dinner.  Called the York and booked a table (a must do) we sat out on the balcony. The staff we great the food was perfect our only very minor issue was the size of our diners way to much for us to eat we felt bad that we could not finish the meals.  The view is ok in winter would be fantastic in summer to see the sunset.  They could use more heaters during winter. Over all a great night out.

Relaxing dinner 

My family and I were staying in the York hotel for a family occasion,  we were travelling from over seas. I literally have nothing positive to say about the York, if there was a minus rating I would give it. We arrived approximately 4.30 in the afternoon upon check in we were loosely greeted by a man, claiming to be the manager. From the get go there were issues.  Firstly he claimed that we, a family if four had booked a double room and our other family member, who booked separately,  had booked a family room. After a lengthy discussion of simple,  why we would never do that considering their was four of us together, we eventually moved on from that issue. 
We were then handed a check in piece of pater, to fill in our details,  address, car reg etc, and signed with signature. Following this the so called manager, asked for our credit card details, for security reasons.  No problem there, you would think, except to our horror, returned overour little piece of paper with our details on, and proceeded to write our our credit card details on the back, card number, expiry, cvc number, the works. When we questioned this, he told us this was his policy, however was unable to show me the policy! Reiterating all the time he was the manager, and saying the slips of paper will be kept in a safe till we leave, not to mention who would have access to them while we were there for the few days! 
Finally consenting to remain there, he showed us to our "family room". Two single beds one double, and no bathroom! 
The toilets for the ladies were at the end of a long dark corridor,  outside, and around the corner, with the toilets and the shower in one. The mens bathroom, albeit at the end of the long corridor,  was inside! 
Also the room was freezing and the old claptout heater didnt work.
We decided to leave, cancelled our booking. On speaking to the owner on leaving, the manager was not the manager,  and seemingly they're always written person credit card details on the flimsy piece of paper,  and I was the only one to complain! I personally find that very hard to believe.  
So we checked out and into a much nicer, cheaper, warmer apartment with the facilities on the inside if the room!! 
I've included some pictures. I would not stay here, especially as a family. If your a single travelling man, go for it. But not acceptable!! 
Never again! 

Disaster 

We had a 3 night stay in Kalgoorlie this week ate out every night and so happy to say we left the Best till Last!!!! Having read reviews that some other restaurants were better and having tried them we totally disagree! The meal we had at The York was second to non! We had a drink on their beautiful balcony before dinner and then came down to eat in their beautifully decorated dining room The service by our waitress Kyla was excellent nothing was too much trouble! She was an absolute joy! Made our last night in Kal a memorable one!!!!

Saved the Best till Last!!!!

Good old pub menu, reasonable wine list and several places in which to eat.

Order and pay for meals and drinks at the bar. Credit cards accepted, but they have a 1.8% surcharge for American Express cards. 

Historic hotel on main street

I have stayed at many places all around the world and I have never received service as I did at the York Hotel, all of the staff were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond my expectations. I had done a big food shop and they allowed me to store my shopping in the fridge before my long drive home, they allowed me to use their ice machine to top up my eskies and they let me store my bags in the room long after check out. We also ate at the restaurant and the food servings were huge and absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend this beautiful old hotel to stay in, it has a lot of character and history.

Fantastic

We had a very enjoyable evening at the York Hotel, the food was very good and the staff was very helpful.  The building itself was historic and the stair case amazing, strongly recommend the to[p deck for sunset

This hotel is just amazing.the interior is just beautiful and regal.great friendly staff and the food is great.dining down stairs or upstairs on the balcony with the view over Hannah st. Accomodation is also available..
