Cabañas El Puesto Sur

The cabin we rented at El Puesto Sur was exactly what the description called for - rustic furnishings, modeled after the cabins typical of the estancias in the area, small, cozy and comfortable. If you are looking for a generic "Best Western-type" experience, this is not for you (and neither is Patagonia). Our group of five spent 4 nights at El Puesto Sur and loved our time there. All of the arrangements were made ahead of time on-line with one of the owners named Liz who was an excellent communicator and speaks English. On-site, the cabins are managed by her brother and sister-in-law, Alejandra and Omar who are lovely and very friendly and accommodating. They live on the property so are accessible most of the day. Their English is limited so expect to use your Spanish. The cabins have a basic kitchen with a two burner propane stove and small refrigerator so we were able to make simple pasta dishes and keep our beer cold. The breakfast is exactly as described (bread/jam/butter/coffee/milk/tea) so if you want eggs, you can buy them and cook them yourself - which we did. The coffee provided is instant which we found all over Argentina and Chile and was actually quite good. There is a daily cleaning service which we passed up expect for garbage pick up and clean towels. The Cabins were a perfect basecamp for hikes in the area. Alejandra arranged for a shuttle transport to a trail head north of town so we could complete a loop hike back into town. She arranged for an early pick up for our group of five and we paid her directly. If you don't speak Spanish, you can probably set this up with Liz ahead of time but don't count on email while you are there since there is no reliable internet access anywhere in El Chlatén due to excessive demand on the system. Lastly, expect to use cash exclusively in El Chalén so come prepared. Keep your expectations realistic and you will have a great experience. We would definitely return to El Puesto Sur!
