This was our second Thanksgiving weekend at the Inn. Great location, large  4th floor room with lovely balcony view. Nicer than last year’s room. Relaxing, slightly quirky,  nice- but not super fancy or completely updated.  Breakfast is pleasant continental assortment. No made to order omelettes or elaborate buffet, but more than ample choices in pleasant breakfast room. Front desk and cleaning staff were very friendly and helpful.

Cozy Gem in Great Location

We were upgraded immediately by the very kind desk manager Oz.
Room had a balcony and view of the marina on the canal, very spacious and spotless. Breakfast nicely presented and good.
Location perfect as the whole downtown is small and easily reachable. 
Highly recommended, as is a visit to charming Lewes.

Very nice place in a neat little town

We had a very nice stay and the continental breakfast was awesome! 
When reserving online and securing our rate, the email received said 2nd or 3rd floor (not town view, canal side) Note that if you aren’t given the 3rd floor(we arrived prior to standard checkin time), there may not be a canal view when bushes have leaves on them. (photos below)  That said you can still enjoy the canal by taking a walk when not being able to view from your room.   Thank you for a very nice and relaxing stay….we’re already looking forward to our next stay with the unobstructed canal view :)   (see photos  depicting floor 2 vs 3)

We went to Inn at Canal Square the weekend right before July 4th (June 30-July 3rd) for a delayed celebration for my sister's birthday. It's taken me awhile to sit down and write a review because I wanted to give the inn it's proper due.   I can't say enough good things about it:

•	Gorgeous Views - The hotel is located right on the canal.  We had two rooms both overlooking the canal.  We enjoyed the peacefulness of sitting on the balcony watching the beautiful views, and all the boats going by. Wish we spent more time doing that.   
•	Fantastic Location –one of the best if not the best locations for a hotel in Lewes.  Not only is it on the canal, but it is close to all the good restaurants, bars (including the fun ones (Irish Eyes) across the bridge on the on the other side of the canal), shops, museums, and cultural activities – there was a big art fair that weekend  just a block away.
•	Spacious Well-Appointed Rooms – Both our rooms with VERY spacious.  We brought so much stuff – luggage, all kinds of bags, coolers, etc.  Unlike most hotels I’ve been to where there is a lack of space and poorly designed rooms, there was plenty of room to lay them down on tables, ottomans, luggage racks, where they didn’t get in the way.  Also, we were never were on top of each other.   There was a king bed with an ottoman at the bottom that we put one suitcase on.  Then there was sitting area with a sofa sitting chairs coffee table in one room, similar in the other room except two sitting chairs and ottoman that acted like a coffee table.  Both rooms had a large desk with two comfortable chairs that could also be used as a sitting are.   They also had two refrigerators that were a lot larger than in most hotels.  Our room also had a little freezer at the top of the fridge.  Each room had a dresser/armoire with a flat screen TV on top.  At the entry-way there was a sliding door closet with mirrors on it.  The bathroom was big with one section with a sink and long vanity and other section with a room with a door that had the toilet and a stall shower (which I prefer to bathtub).  This way someone can get ready at the sink while the other person is taking a shower.  In the shower section there was an exhaust fan you could turn on along with heat lights.  There were also Keurig coffee makers, blow dryer (I brought my own because I have a diffuser that often can’t attach to the blow dryers at hotels), and bathrobes, bar soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion.  The only thing I would prefer is if they had bath gel for the shower.  I don’t like using bar soap.   
•	Cleanliness  – I’m a germophobe.  It’s one of the reasons I don’t travel the way I used to  but this hotel is so CLEAN.  They have hand sanitizers located in all the right places: the front desk, by the elevators on every floor, and wipes in the breakfast area.   The bathrooms in the lobby were immaculate.   The cleaning staff are fantastic and very accommodating. They did an excellent job cleaning the room and we never had an instance where we came back to a room that wasn’t serviced, unless we specifically didn’t want it serviced.  We would often put the Do Not Disturb sign up on the door when we went down for breakfast.  
•	Staff – The staff are excellent.  I already mentioned the cleaning staff above who were great but the front desk were also very friendly and helpful.  I must make a special shout-out to Oz.  He is so wonderful – so nice, friendly, patient, and helpful. When I first booked the hotel months in advance he was so patient answering all my questions – and I had a lot because I had never been to Lewes before.  I wanted this to be special for my sisters milestone birthday celebration.    In fact, I had wanted to book the cottage suites which are separate from the hotel. I thought it would be nice for the whole family to be together but he advised against it because of two sets of stairs – one to get inside and bring the luggage in but also there is a spiral staircase to get up to the rooms that would have been difficult for my father to navigate.   He said being in the hotel with the elevators would be a lot easier He was right.   We were all happy with our accommodations.  He was just as helpful and friendly when we met him in person giving us advice about the beach, driving, where to go, what to do.  Just a great guy! 
•	Breakfast – I’m not going to write all about the breakfast because so many reviews I looked at before booking this hotel highlighted it. Suffice it to say there was a great selection of fruits, cheeses, bagels, pastries and more which you can read in the other reviews.    

ONE MORE NOTE:  After staying at this hotel, I was surprised by some negative reviews I read before booking it.  (I booked because so many reviews were positive and there’s always those people you can’t please).    What comes to mind, is one person in particular saying it was terrible with old décor, dirty carpets , and uncomfortable beds.  Our beds were very comfortable and we slept well.  The carpets in our room were not dirty, but they are getting older and the rooms  probably could use a little facelift.    It appears that the carpeting in the halls are new.  I’m assuming with COVID to keep a business running and catch up because of a year or so of vacancies, it is not easy to quickly replace the carpets and some of the furniture without losing more revenues by having vacant rooms.  I’m sure they will find a time when this can be done  but as far as I was concerned, it was not an issue (remember I’m a germophobe – the place is CLEAN).  Also, I have stayed at many high end hotels over the years and this was a standout for not just me but the rest of my family.   Regarding the décor – those who feel it is dated, well it’s an inn and I wouldn’t expect modern décor.  



Can't Say Enough Good Things

Enjoyed a 3 night stay in the Captain's Quarters located right on the water. Screened in porch was amazing. So relaxing and the views were incredible both day and night. Kitchen was so useful for preparing a couple of meals and we had plenty of room to spread out with the kids. 

Didn't realize that the spiral stair was for both bedrooms upstairs but after a few trips up and down it felt safe and was fine. Overall what a unique and interesting accommodation. 

Captain's Quarters were Fabulous

This is a very pleasant Inn located in the heart of Lewes. Our room was large and comfortable with a lovely view and balcony. Very pleasant staff. Nice simple breakfast. 

The decor is dated and an odd mix of Asian art, colonial-ish and miscellaneous without a cohesive design.

Relaxing, Friendly and Good Location

A very nice place to stay, within walking distance of quite a few restaurants and shops. A nice waterfront restaurant also, very busy and well staffed. Highly recommend it. Lewes was a pleasant surprise.  Only knew it as the ferry destination from Cape May. Worth a visit.

Great place!

We were traveling through Lewes via the ferry.  We only needed a room for one night.  Inn at Canal Sq. Has a 2 night minimum but they found us a space.  The room was very well appointed, clean and had a wonderful view.  The absolute high point was breakfast!  We’ve NEVER had such a wonderful breakfast included with our room.  Over 8 varieties of fresh fruit- berries, melons, bananas, oranges-etc., cereals, pastries, toast, bagels, and the best smoked salmon(lox).  I’ll come back just for the breakfast.

The best breakfast ever!

We came in for a week for Christmas. Ended up staying almost two weeks.  The staff was wonderful!  The Inn was decorated so beautifully. The breakfast room was just delightful.  Not a single concern. Can’t wait to come again this spring.

Just beautiful

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Inn at Canal Square and it ticked all the boxes we want from a hotel. The 4th floor room was spacious, quiet and had a nice view over the canal. Everyone we came in contact with in the hotel was very friendly, the breakfast was a good selection of fruits, pastries, breads, hard boiled eggs and cereals (more than adequate). Parking was plentiful and its location in town is perfect. We will certainly be returning again and it will be very soon !
