Best breakfast I've ever had, house was spotlessly clean, owners were very welcoming. Had a great experience all round. Very well situated. Close to amenities and main town centre. Very convenient for shops etc

Outstanding breakfast!

Great location, we stayed here for one night and the accommodation was spot on. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The breakfast is excellent. Elaine and Richard are great hosts. They are very friendly and knowledgeable. We would stay there again!

Excellent B&B - Spot On

..and quite frankly, if we had I'm sure it would have been provided with a smile!

Stayed here for 3 nights in September with my mum; it was a booking made in a hurry without any real thought behind it, so expectations were mixed to begin with. 

However, I was absolutely blown away. I was genuinely sad to leave this place once my stay was over - not just because it meant the end of the short break, but because it was such a lovely place to stay. Elaine & Richard couldn't have been more welcoming or more helpful, and you could tell that running the B&B was as much a pleasure as it was a business.  I found out that Elaine & Richard also run "how to run a b&B" courses, and frankly I can't think of anyone who would be better suited to running those courses - Elaine & Richard are so clearly passionate and joyful in what they do, it's wonderful to see. 

On arrival it's easy to see where you're going - the bright red door sort of gives it away! Elaine knew who I was when I first rang the bell, and the first impressions of the B&B were great - clean and cosy, with obvious Covid measures in place. It's a small place, only 2 guest rooms, but that made it all the more charming. 

The room itself (The Mayburgh Room) was lovely - not huge, but big enough for 2 adults to easily move around in. There was no wardrobe, but plenty of drawer space and a hanging rail with coathangers provided and coat hooks, as well as a couple of chairs - and space under the bed for storing suitcases & bags. There was a good selection of tea & coffee making bits, as well as hot chocolate sachets, biscuits and a bottle of fresh water. Great stuff. 

The double bed was comfy - soft but not sagging, and the pillows were nice and springy. 

In this room, there is no en-suite bathroom - something which I was a little wary of at first - but! There is in my opinion something much better - a large, spacious bathroom with a full bathtub, shower over the bath (the bathtub is wider at the shower end so you're not cramped in the shower), heated towel rail, toilet & sink. This bathroom is for exclusive use for the Mayburgh room (the other room in the B&B has an en-suite), and is only a couple of steps across the hallway. Bathrobes are thoughtfully provided too, which was a lovely touch in such a small B&B.  And the bath - my mum was massively grateful for the bath after a long day's walking in the Lakes.. and if you ask Elaine nicely she'll happily provide a wine glass if you want a bath in absolute luxury!

Breakfasts were ordered via order form each evening (a covid restriction I think; in normal times a buffet is provided and breakfast ordered at the table), and the breakfasts were absolutely lovely. The full english (with black pudding) was the perfect start to a day's activities in the Lake district, with much of the produce locally sourced. Eggs were offered fried, poached or scrambled (nice to have the choice!), and as Elaine explained on our first morning, mushrooms seem to be a love-them-or-hate-them ingredient and so you're asked if you'd like them on your breakfast or not.  I also noted there were vegetarian/vegan/gluten free breakfast options.

Due to covid rules, our room wasn't cleaned during our stay however Elaine & Richard repeatedly reassured us if we needed anything - fresh towels, more tea & coffee in the room etc - to just ask and it wouldn't be a problem, and it wasn't. 

As for location - it's very well situated, less than a 10 minute walk into Penrith town centre and local bars & restaurants, and Penrith itself is a great base for exploring the Lake District.  Next time I'm anywhere in the vicinity, The Red Townhouse will be my first choice for accommodation, without a shadow of a doubt.

Couldn't have asked for anything more!

The entire house is designed with lake districts touch. The place is very clean, comfy and well hygiene. The hosts are nice and helpful. Don’t miss their homemade breakfast which will give you a full day of good mood and energy!

My wife and I stayed at the Red Townhouse on our way back up to Scotland and what a find. This place has everything you could wish for and more. The hosts were great and made us feel very welcome ,they gave us advice on were to eat that evening and the Italian Restaurant they suggested was superb The room we had was the Gem a lovely room with all you need for a good nights rest the fluffy dressing gowns were great .In the morning the breakfast was another hit I had the full cumbrian and my wife the smoked Salmon and Scrambled Eggs one of the best breakfasts I have had in a long time I would recommend the Red Townhouse to anyone who is visiting Penrith it woyld be very hard to find a better place.

Hidden Gem in Penrith

Well worth a visit.  Clean, hospitable, comfortable, a walk away from town centre.  Knowledge of area really good for advise on what to do where to eat etc.  A BIG recommend.
You would be mad not to if in the area for any event or activity.  Forgot, off road parking a big plus.

We stayed here for three nights and the accommodation was first class. Our room was spacious, clean, comfortable bed and the decor was lovely. The town house is in a great location close to all shop, bars, and restaurants. The breakfast is excellent great choices of cereal and breakfast is cooked to order with a large range of foods to choose from. The quality of the food is of a high standard. Elaine and Richard are great hosts. They are very friendly knowledgeable about the local area and they make you feel at home. We will definitely stay here again when in the area. 

Excellent B&B 

No matter how much research you do it won’t compare to the real life practical experience Richard and Elaine can share. The 2 day course is tailored to your needs and no question goes unanswered.  It’s amazing how the time passes and how much there is to learn about the business.  Being in the trade for so long they’ve faced it all so can offer you advice on dealing with all types of situations.  Feeling nervous as the opening day of my new venture was approaching I knew to call Elaine who made me feel at ease and answered yet more questions! (Thank you) While staying in their B and B you can really experience how the business works and they’ve got great tips to save you making mistakes, wasting money and maximising profit.  You can tell they love the trade and their positive approach is something I hope to adopt too.  Highly recommend their course and I’m hard to please as a training developer myself! (Whoops was - now a B & B owner) lol

How to run a B and B Course

A big thank you to Elaine & Richard , you made us feel so welcome ! Our room was comfortable and clean in very quiet surroundings ( considering it's a stone's throw from the town centre) and the breakfast was wonderful. 
We love Penrith and try to visit at least once every year , we would definitely recommend the Red Townhouse , we will be back :-)
