The Pennyghael Hotel

This place is an absolute gem! My partner and I arrived at our holiday cottage on a Saturday evening and decided to pop in, have a drink, and suss out availability for a meal on another night. We were greeted warmly and told that all the tables were full, but to take a seat at the bar and have a drink until one came free. The lady behind the bar was very friendly and made us feel really welcome. We then asked about the possibility of getting some food as we’d decided that we didn’t feel like cooking after our journey. ‘ Don’t worry, we’ll always get you fed’ came the reply ,and we were shortly seated at a table that had been cleared. The menu is small, but perfectly formed! I much prefer a small menu of local produce cooked freshly, than an extensive one done poorly. We both chose burgers,one venison and one wild boar. They were able to serve mine on a gluten free bun as I don’t eat wheat bread. Both were perfectly cooked, tasty, and came with a good portion of hot, fluffy, crispy chips and coleslaw. Just writing this is making me want another meal there! The service was excellent. Friendly, efficient and with nothing being too much trouble. We ate there again later in the week, and again, everything was outstanding. I really can’t recommend this place enough. Situated looking across Loch Scridain, it’s setting couldn’t be more stunning. Great food, a lovely friendly, relaxed atmosphere, and wonderful service. We can’t wait to visit again. Thanks to all, and very well done!
