Choosing TemboTamu B&B was one of our best decisions along our travels in Tansania with respect to accommodation. It was - I can say - perfect. They organised the airport shuttle and we were welcomed by Mary, one of the two women (the other one is Vivianne) who run the house and kitchen while Sandra the owner is not around. The house and garden and accommodation are spotlessly clean. Breakfast is great - with good coffee, fruits, cereal, toast, eggs in any form you like, homemade jam - and highly enjoyable in the tasteful setting of well chosen local furniture and tiles and the beautiful garden.
We stayed in the two bedroom cottage. Lots of space to relax.  Quiet surroundings in general. Sometimes barking of dogs and the usual prayer. Many ideas written in a book as to where to go or eat (for instance 'More than a drop', a  beautiful garden restaurant in walking distance with excellent views of Kilimanjaro. For our way back to TemboTamu their security guard accompanied us). 
Sandra, to whom we talked by phone, offered we could make  payment via credit card or transfer the money on their company USD account. 
I’m considering going to Moshi (a pleasant small town) just to spend a holiday in TemboTamu. We stayed for 5 days and didn’t leave Moshi easily. The B&B ist not far from the centre (about 30 min. on foot). Taxi costs are about 10000 TZS return. Safaris are offered by TemboTamu but we didn't try. 

Just like in paradise

As many people said, Sandra is not there. However, Frank is a nice guy and helped us out as he could.
The place is well kept by Vivian and Mary, who are amazing cooks and great people! Make sure to book the cooking class with the two of them, as well as the Materuni Waterfalls trip, all explained in their guide.
If you plan to book a Kilimanjaro day trip, make sure you get the one you want: either the one outside the park (cheaper) or the full day trip around 150usd/person, which btw is highly recommended!
The terrace outside Tembo tamu is fantastic, quite a nice place for relax.
Wifi is not too great, but just to say something bad.


Very happy/ nos encantó!!!

I felt sorry for Vivianne, the Tembotamu housekeeper - she was the only staff member regularly present, doing her job, when we were there for a 3-night stay. She seemed aware that guests were perplexed by the apparent absence of management. The promotional materials say a couple manages this place but ... Sandra was away on an extended break; Frank was hardly there, but when he did turn up he seemed completely disorganised. For example, a young man had returned from Kilimanjaro and was in bed all one day sick - but it was mostly other guests who took care of him. Frank only arrived in the evening when the young man had started to improve.

On a positive note, the breakfasts were good, and we had a nice dinner the night we arrived. There was a detailed dossier with recommendations for restaurants, cafes, shops, and we used it a lot. The garden was pretty and the outdoor sitting area was comfy. Wifi was free but patchy and kept going off; I heard Frank complaining to Vivianne that he was topping it up but it kept running out. Our room was not very clean - certainly not the bathroom - so I gave it a good clean myself after the first day. Floor mats were marked, cracked/marked paint on the walls.

We persisted with Tembotamu because my husband had booked a Kilimanjaro day trek, the key reason for going to Moshi. But we wouldn't stay there again.

Looking at Tripadvisor, other recent guests have had similar experiences. It is a shame to build a business and reputation, then risk it through mismanagement. I don't know what's happened, but I hope Tembotamu gets it act together. Based on our experience, I could not recommend it.

Management vacuum; cannot recommend Tembotamu

Based on Tripadvisor's fine reviews we booked a family room for 2 nights. It was a mistake. Sandra is no longer there and the place is lacking a "captain". Worst of all was the dogs barking from midnight till dawn...no sleep for two nights. So don't stay there...but maybe their safaris are better, we didn't use them, so can't Day🙏

Tembotamu was the organizer of my safari ... a very nice place ... away from the street ... beautiful garden ... modest conditions but for overnight stay before or after a safari sufficient ... a great breakfast an exclusive hotel could be envious ... Frank does what  can, but the lack of Sandra can be felt ... for a sweet elephant to be sweet, a woman is needed for this ... Sandra, get back to health soon...safari perfectly organized ... seen the Big Five:) ... I highly recommend

We arrived at night (pretty bumpy road to reach the BB) and Frank was not there, our guide called him on the phone and we had to wait for a short while before he showed up. Frank was really weird in his way to speak and move (reminded us Jack Sparrow, from Pirates of the Carribeans), he even told us to tell our guide+driver (who were worried for us to stay there) to go away because he didn't want them there (maybe an odd way to tell us he cared for our safety?). Not the best feeling though.
Common area are actually really cute and food is good, but the room was really too small, bathroom was dirty and the shower (the plastic carpet inside was black of dirt) didn't have much hot water the second night and no water at all the morning after (had to put drops of water). 
We asked to pay with credit card but we were told cash only, contrary to what was written on Booking (they were supposed to accept visa/mastercard). After I said I would have not paid cash they proposed us to pay through PayPal, too bad that WiFi (quite fast when available) stopped working at 11pm the night before and nobody was able to fix it. Fortunately, I could use my 4G connection to make the payment.
During the night time nobody is around so if you need anything, you are on your own. If something happen, nobody to ask. 
I'm wondering if this place is different when the female owner is around (apparently she left in NZ for vacations). My husband and I really don't understand all these amazing reviews.

No hot shower, no internet, no credit card, no Sandra

This summer we decided to visit Tanzania and left our run fairly late. We we given a recommendation to use Tembotamu and we are so grateful for this!! Sandra was amazing in helping us book our 5 days complete with amazing accommodation. Our driver Gilbert became a friend who we were very sad to leave at the end! With everything beautifully organised by Sandra the adventure from Tarangire, to Ngorongoro to Serengeti to Lake Natron to Engaruka were all perfect! Gilbert was a great guide sharing great information about the animals. He was knowledgeable and kind and our comfort and experience were always attended to!   The car was well equipped. It had a fridge to keep our water cold ( provided by Tembo!) There were pillows and Maasai Shuka. Gilbert was fantastic. Our friends still talk about him as will my husband and I. I cant wait to bring our whole family over! It was a truly magical experience! I cannot recommend this company and Gilbert enough!

Safari with the best!

We booked and planned our 5 day Serengeti, Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and Lake Manyara national parks safari experience with Sandra at Tembotamu. It was very easy and she allowed us to customize our trip as much as we liked while offering valuable info on where the best areas to visit are. We received a detailed itinerary of what to expect and where we would stay as well as information on each camp and a guide to tipping at lodges and guides (this was great to have). Our guide for the 5 days was Frank who was very knowledgeable and easy to chat with. He always gave us the right information without overwhelming. We were picked up right from the Arusha airport to start our journey making it very easy for us. We had an amazing experience and would 100% recommend booking your safari with Tembotamu Safaris!

Incredible Safari Experience With Tembotamu Dec'18

We didn't plan our trip to stay here but the original lodge we booked with was terrible so we were so grateful to find this place! The owner was away on her own holiday at the time but her amazing and trusted staff were there to greet us and take care of our needs. We stayed in the 2BR cottage and we had lots of space to lounge and relax. The setting was quiet and about a 20 minute walk from town. It was very homey and cozy. Free wifi and the most amazing breakfast. We would come back to Moshi just to stay there! They also run a tour company and helped us organize a day hike and coffee tour.

Last summer I worked with Tembotamu to set up an amazing trip that included my family of four and for the part of the time, three additional guests. 

With trip participants coming and going, logistics and airport transfers were a little complicated, yet Sandra and Frank worked with me to make it absolutely flawless. Vehicles were on time, met us where they said they would and were well equipped. We visited Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater as a large group. Then my family continued on to Serengeti and ultimately Zanzibar, before coming back to Moshi, where we finished our stay at Tembotamu B&B. We found it a perfect way to spend our last day in Tanzania. We arrived quite late in the evening but Frank went the extra mile by going into town to pick up dinner for us. 

Having traveled to Tanzania for business a number of times in the past, I knew of some of the places I wanted to share with my family, but Sandra's recommendations were even better, and our safari guide, Gilbert was fantastic. My kids still talk about it as a magical experience.

Because of my work I am frequently in the position to recommend safari companies, and I enthusiastically send everyone to Tembotamu.
