Anushka Holiday Inn

we struggled to find Anushka initially. We were travelling on foot with our heavy backpacks from the station - it turned out to be quite a walk away from town up a hill. A tuk tuk took pity on us and actually drove us the last little bit for free. 
The family are very nice (very dedicated to their new baby). The rooms were comfortable. The food was nice. They arranged transport for us to catch our bus from Bundurewala to our next destination (admittedly with the ladies' brother, a tuk tuk driver, who actually tried to overcharge us). 
A good base for the Dambetenne tea Factory and Lipton's Seat, just be aware of tuk tuks trying to scam you. They were worse here than anywhere else we visited! 
Locals pay between 35 and 70 for 1km
(Really slow wifi!)

Lovely  friendly welcoming owners, we were greeted with tea and cake, they are helpful and efficient , they organised all the trips we wanted with a very good tuk tuk driver (vimukthy ). They offer a varied and very reasonably priced evening menu and the food is very good.. A great little hotel

Friendly, family  run guesthouse, a long walk from town

Nice little boutique family hotel

We stayed for only one night and we were met with a nice pot of tea, which was welcome after a long journey.

The room was basic, the shower didn't work, the bathroom door didn't shut and the bed sheets were stained, maybe clean but still not nice.

It's a bit out of town but on the road to the monestery. 

People nice enough but no dinner available and no breakfast either 

Very average and lacking that homestay comfort

With regards to my bitter experience had with Anushka holiday Inn, Haputale  (same property advertised under Lavanya Holiday Inn, Haputale )

On 6th August 2016 we checked in around 5.30pm and realized that this Inn was a 2 hourly basis spot, which had filthy bed linen and no door locks in the rooms.

Around 6.20 pm the owner and 18 others under the influence of liquor came in for occupancy. As usual they made some remarks to our ladies and we found it very uncomfortable and worried about our safety. However the owner who was drunk assured about our safety and his friends behaviors.

We requested him to replace us with some other decent accommodation or refund us the advance and he refused and pushed me away physically.

Then many arguments arose and his friends were almost ready to attack us with the owner, many neighbors witnessed this unpleasant incident, which should not happen to any guest in the future.

He is misleading the guest through the reputation of the booking agents. Guest should be notified through reviews.
DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE

Drunk owner

We have stayed in about 100 budget or mid-range hotels throughout SE Asia and India over the past few years and have not had cause to write a really negative review until now. We are fairly tolerant, do not have unrealistic expectations, and are prepared to accept varying standards as long as the basics of hygiene and a functioning bathroom are met.
We booked a standard room through a popular online agency for AUD $37.00 per night, and were expecting a much better standard than what was provided, given the price paid and the hotel description on the booking agency.
To enter the place you have to negotiate a rickety and extremely unsafe ramp across the roadworks which are not likely to be finished for at least 6 months. This should have been a warning about what was to come.
We were looking forward to the hot shower, said to be available in the "official" hotel description. There was not enough water pressure to start the pump and heater unless the shower head was put near the floor.
Next we found a very unsavoury stain on the bed sheet and when we pointed this out to the owner we were told to sleep on the top sheet because the practice in Sri Lanka was to use the bottom sheet as a mattress protector!
This place claims to have 24hr room service, but at midnight we were woken by a late arriving guest knocking on our window because there was nobody on duty and no doorbell.
The water pressure prolem could not be fixed.
We asked to be moved to another room. This room had no window but at least the sheets appeared to be clean in the dim light, and the hot water worked but it appeared to be a death trap, with exposed wiring near the water outlet.
On the positive side, we were given very good service by the house - maid.
