I stayed at Cortijo San Jose on a yoga holiday ( YOASyogaretreats.com). Everything about the Cortijo was wonderful. The owners/hosts Kells and Celi are charming and helpful, and are around when needed but not intrusive. Kells is a wonderful chef and provided 3 delicious veggie meals every day. Celi has created the ambience with beautiful and stylish decor and comfortable rooms.
I would definitely return.
(by the way  the photo of the strange tower above the listing is not the Cortijo which is an attractive and sensitively restored old farmhouse)

It has been a while since we visited the Cortijo owned by Ge en Susan, a dutch couple who built this place from a pile of rubble. It was our small holiday we booked via an traveling agency who claim to find the special places that are off the beaten track. Well, the agency promised and delivered!

After a drive through the sweltering heat of southern Spain our navigation system told us to hit a dirt road. After a couple of minutes drive through dust and olive groves (for the birders among us; we saw lot of larks, bee eaters and hoopoes)  we found the Cortijo nicely sitting on a hill top. 

We were welcomed in the abundant shade of the old farm-stead where we were treated with a cool drink. We felt quickly comfortable with Ge and Susan, quickly the conversation turned onto the common interest of birding. We were in the right spot, with lots of tips we saw some really cool birds (among others a night-jar who would start calling exactly at 20:45).

For the non-birders among us; I would really recommend this place for a very nice and relaxing holiday. It is a lovely very special place which is a great starting point to visit the great sights in the vicinity . 

The Cortijo is located a little bit away from villages where you can go to a restaurant. But really there is no need to leave the place in the evening. 6 out of 7 evening we dined with the other guests at the Cortijo. Susan (and Ge) is a really good cook, the meals are nice and adjusted to the climate of southern Spain. The atmosphere is great, and we stayed many nights until it was cool enough in the rooms to go to bed.

The rooms are nicely decorated each in its own distinct style. We enjoyed it tremendously.

The best place in the heart of Andalucia. Very friendly cortijo owners, very special and cosy rooms and the food is delicious. 

Because of its location you can visit a lot of nice places in Andalucia: Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga but also lots of beautiful villages. And if you want a trip-off day, just lay by the pool and enjoy a good book. 

At the Cortijo Ge & Susan you're definitely have a nice time.

The Cortijo is restored with love for original details by a Dutch Couple Susan en Ge.They put effort in making you feel at home. it is a tranquil friendly place.Their fantastic cooking is pure with local products. The view over the olive trea hills is amazing. The sunrise and sunset from the porch enjoying a good glass of wine is breathtaking.The suites all are decorated in different styles.The pool is perfect for cooling down the hot Andalucian sun and air.Their dogs are too sweet and come with you on a walk to the river or into the nature reserve.There are enough beautifull places within an hours drive to visit. It was a privelege to be able to stay at this Cortijo for a few days....

A truly wonderful place to stay

Paradise on a hilltop, owned by great hosts

Wonderfull place,fantastic hospetality...

Wow!

The bad service, the non cleanliness and smelliness of the place is really offputting!
Cleaning of the apartment is only happening every four days, so you don't get fresh towels and bed sheet for a good few days. 
You only have access to a limited access of electricity as there is only one or in best case two sockets in the apartment.
The stay was overall a real disappointment!


Not a good value for the price

We were not keen on the hospitality of this couple at all. We only had one outlet in our room and were denied a socket so could not charge our tooth brush and charge our phones at the same time. The blankets were full of animals and the floors were very dirty. We could not always take a shower as sometimes the hot water run out and noting came out of the 'warm' tab. The room was not cleaned during our three day stay as it is only done after four days as mentioned in a booklet in the room but not on the internet. Clean towels you have to ask for, but after being refused the socket we did not dare. Breakfast was nice and so were the views from our room.
