I stayed at the hotel for two nights. Both dinner and breakfast were incredible and the fruit wines were delicious. The building is stunning and the rooms had an old-world charm that excused the fact that some of the fittings were slightly dated. Staff were lovely and staying here was an interesting and memorable experience. At night, I went around the side of the hotel to view the monastery under cover of night - a hound thunderously barked at us to leave, so we did. Then, when exploring one of the abandoned wings of the hotel, we stumbled into an old ballroom filled with high-backed chairs positioned around round dining tables, as though set up for a ghostly banquet. Our footsteps echoed on the marbled flagstone floor while moonlight cast faint shadows. We decided to perform a polka, theorising that the baroque rhythms would stir any dormant spirits. Nothing happened but it was very spooky. The lagoon and options around the hotel are also great - there is a good jungle gym a minute's walk down the road.
