During our bicycle and walking holiday in the region we were very warmly welcomed by the whole family. They were so friendly and helpful. We stayed a fantastic 2 nights there. The couple does not speak English but hand signs are an international language + daughter Marja who happened to be there over the weekend with the 3 years old Max translated everything (if she is in Helsinki she can also translate using the phone). All in all we learned a lot about the family (what a history), the region and the country. Great regional cooking from Kirsti. We will never forget the Karjalan piirakka!! Excellent sauna. Comfortable room with shared bathroom (but there were no other guests when we stayed there). Secret tip: the nearby Kaujaneva - Pohjakangas National Park with a superb walking path through lakes in splendid nature (we hiked beginning of September and we saw only 2 other tourists). Loma-Raiso is in the middle of the fields and so very quiet. Small village Karvia (with supermarket) at 4 km. Loma-Raiso is highly recommended! A true Finnish experience.
