Melrost Airport Bed & Breakfast

Very cute little bungalow hotel. Rooms are basic, not elegant, not new, but clean and welcoming. Staff picked us up at the airport on arrival. And again on our  departure dropped us off at the time we requested. Breakfast was lovely on the verandah. The hotel is only two hundred feet from the large mall and easily accessible by walking.

 Lovely staff, friendly and helpful. Room was large, clean with very comfortable beds. 
Breakfast was a perfect start to the day.

After a long flight all we wanted was to quickly get settled and rested. The Melrost Shuttle picked us up from the San Jose Airport and 5 min later we were at the Melrost Bed and Breakfast, (BTW it’s Melrost not Melrose). If you desire  Costa Rican experience (not a Hilton Hotel with pool and hair salon) then I recommend Melrost. 
     Breakfast is included and it is a simple serving of  fruit,  eggs and toast with coffee or juice, served just outside your room on the covered deck (photo). You choose what time you want to have breakfast. We found it very pleasant to eat on the patio in the morning.  Some will choose to eat early and if your window vents are open, which they usually are, you will hear others from inside your room who choose to eat breakfast earlier. 
    We have stayed in 3 different rooms. We booked the main floor when we had a lot of luggage and the upper floor when traveling lighter. I personally like the upper floor. The setting of the Melrost is a pleasant area amidst a bustling urban Costa Rican town.  The view from the patios are of vines and green trees (we watched hummingbirds during breakfast) that are not panoramic but instill a sense of being in a greenway despite the urban surroundings. The rooms we had were clean and quaint with tile and stuccoed walls with fans on the ceiling. The walls will not insulate you from noise from noisy neighbors and occasionally you will hear dogs barking or cars driving but the private area keeps the urban sounds down and traffic is very light. Basic amenities are provided but you should bring your own kleenex and extra hangars if you need lots. 
     I am a big fan of supporting local businesses, especially family operated ones. You will meet the family members behind the desk and they are very kind and helpful. If you get a chance ask them how the name of Melrost came to be. If you need the trappings of urban shopping, City Mall is a 5 min walk and has everything you need from a large Mall. 
   Melrost is a place that is close to the heart, is charming and clean, without the nuances or price of other  hotels. The setting like a oasis in a busy neighborhood, and the value is unbeatable.

Melrost is owned by one of the kindest, caring families I have ever met. The father, mother and son went absolutely above and beyond. They were so accommodating. This Bed & Breakfast is in a 100% accessible and great location. Their service and hospitality was amazing. The owners are extremely humble and hard-working. I can't express my gratitude enough on how much they helped me when I made an error on the night I booked. I was truly in shock on how understanding they were on my terrible mistake. I recommend this place to anyone that needs a comfortable and exceptional stay. I am a young girl that was doing a solo trip to Costa Rica to volunteer and was having a difficult time, however meeting this family and their Bed & Breakfast was definitely one of the highlights of my trip. You need a place to stay near the airport? This is exactly where you need to be. 

I have stayed here numerous times now beginning and ending my trip. Always my happy place. Staff are just the best. Location is perfect, so close to the airport but yet with all the trees surrounding and the cows down the corner you would never know. The price is right also. The free shuttle from and to airport and the driver is so sweet. I highly recommend.

Decent, affordable, simple accommodations close the SJO airport. Shuttle service was friendly and fairly quick. Beds were comfortable. Basic toast, eggs, fresh fruit, and coffee included. About a 10 min. Uber drive to Sunny/Costa Rent a Car rental next day.

We stayed here for 1 night, due to its proximity to the airport.  We arrived early evening and it was great to be collected by the free shuttle service and the staff were friendly when we checked in.

The rooms are clean and fairly basic with no fridge.  We were very tired so had a good sleep in the spacious beds.  A nice breakfast of fruit, scrambled eggs, toast, juice and tea / coffee were provided in the morning on the outside balcony area.

Some people had commented on noise but we didn't encounter anything. The front door lock is quite flimsy though.

Overall, this is a decent enough place to stay.

Arrived after 11 but shuttle still picked myself and other customers up.  Location is just 5 minutes from airport.  Checked in at midnight.  Room was as expected, basic but clean.  Shuttle driver was very professional and polite.  Did not get to try the breakfast, as I had to leave at 530am to catch another flight.  Same shuttle driver showed up at 515am, still with a smile on his face.  My only complaint is lack of hot water in the morning for a shower.  My room had air conditioning (not sure if they all do) which made for a good few hours of sleep.

Good deal near the airport, nice complementary breakfast, free airport shuttle, the room has all the basics for a night stay, AC, cable TV, private bathroom, staff makes you feel like home even the shuttle driver, definitely a great choice for the price for 2 guests, great bed and breakfast. 

The place is good if you need a night after or before a flight from SJO airport.

Beds are comfy but everything is a bit out-dated, so are the ceiling fans which are noisy. 

The bath room serves its purpose and is appropriate for the price range, however, some details are missing, e.g. something to    stowe your toiletries in the shower. 

However, the free airport shuttle is a big advantage although it is just a 1500m walk.

Best Choice Ever 

We started and ended our trip here.   It had come recommended, so we decided to try.  We were promised a pick up at the airport, and despite a very long delay due to a huge amount of people, the driver was still waiting for us with my name on a sign.  It was only 10 minutes to the B and B.  The first night we were given a small room with A/C.  The only problem with it was that the bed was too big for the room and we kept hitting our shins on it when we were trying to get around it.  Other than that it was good.  It was a little noisy because of its location in the city, but that is not their fault.  We were getting picked up early the next morning, so we did not get to try their breakfast, but they packed a small bag for each of us, consisting of a little muffin, a juice and a cookie.  Since we were returning, we asked to have some items stored for us that we were not going to need for our trip.  This was done with no problem.
The last night of our trip they gave us a bigger room, but had no A/C.  This was okay because it was a little cooler in the city.  And it was a very clean.  The only problem had nothing to do with the hotel.  Unfortunately there are a lot of very ignorant people who have no consideration for others and we were kept up half the night by very loud voices and some idiots even sat in font of our window on the shared balcony and smoked and talked until I realized what was going on and got them away.
The breakfast was simple, but good.  There was toast, jam and scrambled eggs and fruit.  The eggs could have been warmer, but it was all delivered up to your room, where you could eat it at the table on the balcony.  The staff was amazing.  We dealt with Karol when making reservations, and she met us when we got there and she was so helpful and nice.  Cannot say enough about her and anyone we dealt with there.
All in all they deliver very good value for the money and they are just a starting or ending place for your trip.  I recommend them, and if we go back that way again, we will use them again.
