Jingshi Hotel (The Center for International Academic Exchange of Beijing Normal University)

My host at Beijing Normal University booked a few nights accommodation for my academic visit. The room was enormous (I think he booked a larger room type), easily twice the size of the last hotel room I stayed at in Hong Kong. Furnishings are rather old but well maintained. The bathroom is large with full sized bathtub, shower and very comprehensive range of toiletries (including toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving kit etc.). Bathrobes, slippers, iron, in room safe... Everything is well stocked. Breakfast has a good range of mostly chinese food, although there is an eggs station and some toast and muffins. Coffee machine but no English breakfast tea. Location is most convenient for any university activities. Not as convenient for metro access but easy to get taxis (beware traffic though). My only major complaint is the bed. Like all chinese beds, it was rock hard and I was full of aches and pains when sleeping and upon waking. A hot shower was essential to get moving... This is pervasive across all hotels in China. Local hotels have much harder beds while international chains would have softer beds to cater to foreign tourists.
