Super great B&B with great hospitality. The neighbourhood was very safe and the location was super convenient for getting downtown. We loved our stay here.

The sunshine house was lovely and made our stay in Vancouver very easy and nice. The owner was very welcoming, and we were able to take buses to downtown & back pretty easily.

Lisa was an absolutely excellent & accommodating host. Everything we wanted to make our belated honeymoon a delight When we’re able to come back to Vancouver again, you can bet we’ll stay here again!

We are so happy that we stayed here. Lisa is a wonderful host, very accommodating, easy to reach out to with questions or to ask for recommendations. For those that want a charming experience where you will meet other travelers during breakfast, and want something that feels homey; this is a great pick for you. We were out and about all day long each of the days we were here, and it felt good knowing we would be able to relax when we got back and feel a break from the hustle of the city. The house is beautiful and the neighborhood is one you will want to walk around in. There is also a coffee shop a minute away walking that sells baked goods. It was perfect for us and our 5 year old. The best thing about Sunshine House is the location. A quiet, leafy area with enormous craftsmen houses. A safe area about 10-15 min drive from downtown. About a block away is a cute market and a couple of bakeries/cafes. The included breakfast is basic continental with lots of options -toast, yogurt, cereal, bacon, eggs, muffins, and endless coffee/tea. There’s a small fridge and microwave for guest use. Lisa, the owner, lives there with her family. It feels a little like staying at your friend’s grandma’s house, since my other experiences with B&bs were that they were guest only and catered to romantic weekends. Despite what other reviewers noted, there is no litterbox smell (I have cats). There is a musty/mildewy smell throughout the house (maybe why it smells like grandma’s?) and the linens need to be cleaned better. They smell like they were forgotten in the washing machine for a few days and have a funky smell like gym clothes. I think her cleaner needs to bleach them in hot water.Overall, it was an inexpensive place to rest my head in a quiet location. I am not sure I would stay again unless they can address the smell issue.

I had some meetings at the University of British Columbia (UBC).  There aren't many hotels near UBC and the hotels in Downtown Vancouver are rather far from campus.  I thus found The Sunshine House on Expedia.  It's a Bed-and-Breakfast in a neighborhood suburb (Dunbar, Point Grey, Kitsilano).  It's free (street parking) and only a 10-min drive to UBC.  So, I decided to take a chance.It's a large 2-story house (and basement) with about 5 guest rooms.  The owner/family lives in basement..  The main floor has a few guest rooms and the dining area (where breakfast is served).  The 2nd floor has the remaining guest rooms.I enjoyed the congeniality and hospitality of the owner (Lisa).  They are helpful without being overly so (i.e. they leave you alone).  They place is quiet and clean, the room/bed is comfortable.  One is given 2 keys, one for the front door and the other for your room.  There's always coffee (Keurig), hot water, and breakfast includes muffins, croissants, juice, etc.  Lisa also offers guests eggs.I would definitely stay again and recommend to others.  Downtown Vancouver is hectic with lots of traffic and hotel parking is expensive.  Unless you really need to be in Downtown and/or require public transportation, The Sunshine House is a great option!

This is a very nice older home.  It is in a  very nice residential area of Granville Island.  The decor is a mix of antiques and Asian decor.  It was very clean and our hostess was very welcoming.  My husband and brother-in-law enjoyed the breakfasts.  We came in at night and had trouble locating the house.  Lisa stood out on the sidewalk in front of the home to help us locate it.  The only negative was a slightly small shower.  Loved the huge walk-in closet and the fans she provided.

Great Stay

This is a home away from home!  With our traumatic experience in Vancouver (having my car break in in downtown, yes be cautious there), checking in minutes away from downtown area was a great choice.  If you’re in Vancouver and have a car, this is the spot. This gorgeous house is located in a safe and quiet area surrounded by lots of trees, walking distance to cafes and beautiful houses!  Also, Liza is a fantastic host.  She is kind and wonderful. While waiting for my car to be finished she let us overstayed for 3 hours.  The room is also very clean and she  even bought a medicine for my headache!  I would highly recommend her place to anyone looking to come up in Vancouver! - Lani
