Good spot, a table to eat a meal would be nice

A great central lication for Hobart 'touristing' and such lovely accomodation. The second ( single bed)  room in the 'Cambridge' is a tad noisy if guests are staying in the apartment above... not recommended for light sleepers! 

Gogeous place full of character

Beautiful place to stay would definitely stay there next time I visit Hobart. Close to delicious food and parks.

We’ve stayed at the Grand Old Duke before and I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else in Hobart. Battery Point is such a lovely central part of the city with a lot of history and beautiful colonial style buildings. Arthur’s Circus is the centrepiece of this area and the Grand Old Duke is situated right there. You step out of the door and you’re in Arthur’s Circus and also right on Hampden Rd with all the lovely shops, cafes and restaurants. The accommodation itself is wonderful with 4 poster bed, living room, kitchen, bathroom and large bedroom. This time we stayed downstairs in the Wellington suite which is great for couples but upstairs is a 2 bedroom suite which is great for a small family. Highly recommended and we look forward to staying again. 

A great accommodation experience 

Check in was easy and everything was well prepared. My parents and I stayed at the Cambridge apartment. They stayed at the main room which looked like a living room with a four poster bed while I took the small room where the pantry also is. Heated blankets on all the beds. The toilet/bathroom arrangement was a bit awkward since there's no access to the small room except through the toilet. I unfortunately had to stamp on a little black spider crawling near my bed on the first day, no idea what type it is but there weren't any more since that one (I hope). Had street parking right in front of the house most of the time. Overall a nice stay.

An overall nice stay

Excellent place to stay.. within walking distance of Salamanca Place. Warm comfortable home with lots of heritage charm. Comfortable beds with bonus electric blankets.. Management a pleasure to deal with. Would definitely recommend.

Perfect for a friend’s weekend 

This was a return visit for me. The first time was with my husband and this latesr visit was with my 2 adult daughters who were having a weekend  time out from their young families! I love this place. The rooms are beautifully appointed and the location to the markets and Hobart town is great. You do not need a car if you stay here! If I returned to visit Hobart again, I would tailor my visit around the availability of the Grand Old Duke. Ted, the Manager was very helpful as usual and allowed us to store our luggage until our flight in the afternoon.

Back again - it is that good!

We stayed in the Cambridge room which has two bedrooms, although we only needed one. The second bedroom also contained the sink, fridge, microwave.
Very comfortable, old world charm and ambience, warm and cosy. Fairly well equipped, jug, toaster, microwave and fridge, but bench space limited. No side tables or coffee table in sitting area made eating awkward although there is a table and ( heavy) chairs.
The TV is a bit small for a big room! During our stay there was an annoying hum from the wall behind our bed that went all night, not sure where it was coming from.
We felt that the shower should have a hand rail as you have to step over the bath.
All small matters and we thoroughly enjoyed the stay and recommend it as a good place to stay. The location is perfect as you don’t need to drive in to the city. There’s only one car parking space but there is usually a spot in the street to park overnight. We were lucky to get the one car space for most of the time we were there.
All things considered, it was very good; at least 8/10


Grand Old Duke -the Cambridge room

A beautiful part of Hobart’s history located in the heart of historic Battery point. Close to everything Hobart has to offer, Salamanca and the waterfront. We loved the old world charm and antique furniture, including the claw foot bath and 4 poster bed. Comfortable, clean and cosy.

Historic, comfortable, well located .

We had the Wellington suite which had it's own lounge area. The rooms were spacious and the bed was very comfortable. It is in a really great location with fantastic restaurants less then 1 minute's walk and a short stroll down to Salamanca Place. We loved it but parking was difficult sometimes.
