Nathalie's Vung Tau Restaurant & Hotel

The hotel is new and clean. It is built into the steep cliff, with some bare sandstone features. The rooms are of good size with balconies overlooking the water. There is great potential in the design but it is nowhere near full occupancy just yet. The Thai restaurant has a great menu and superb food, including seafood from the bay.

HCMC was deadbeat full during Tet, so minutes before hopping on my motorbike to Vung Tau, I booked a room at Nathalie's. It's located on a hill in one of the most beautiful parts of Vung Tau, where only a two-line road separates the beach from the mountains. 

Check-in was fast, and the room great, with a lot of wood, giving it a nice tropical edge. Large kingsize bed, with firm mattress. The bathroom has a luxurious tub (just like in the pictures), but unfortunately, water pressure is so low it takes half an hour to fill the tub with 4 inches of water. That is cold water, because on both days I stayed, the warm water ran our after less than 3 minutes, and didn't come back for many hours. 

Aside from a removable stain on the toiletroll holder about which I'd rather not speculate, the room was very clean. 

A point for improvement was the minibar, which was empty, although the fridge was running at full speed. They could definitely make some extra money by stocking that with water, beer and perhaps snacks. 

For a B&B, breakfast is hearty, with a variety of a la carte Vietnamese dishes and Thai curries. No fruit or Western foods, but fresh juices and coffee are great. Note that breakfast is not included, but very affordable. 

Staff were very friendly and helpful, although only one spoke some basic English. 

The strip is 5-6km away, but if you're not big on Western food, eat at either the hotel restaurant (Thai) or the great fresh seafood places blocks away. I'm not a big fan of the strip, but drove down several times just because the windy road is so beautiful. 

Would definitely come back here.

Superb B&B

The location is beautiful on the hillside away from the main hustle and bustle of the town.   We booked a sea view room but unfortunately the blinds didn't work so they we couldn't see the sea as they were permanently down.  The room was clean.  The fridge went off when you left the room, there is only a kettle no tea, coffee or sugar was provided.    Bathroom was a nice large size and the bed comfortable.   No breakfast was provided and the staff although mostly friendly, didn't speak very good English.   There was a horrible musty smell in the lift. The food at the restaurant was really nice.  The hotel was ok and I would stay there again, but it could do with a little improvement.  And this side of Vung Tau was the best side, especially if you like peace and quiet.

At Nathalie's you better speak Vietnamese as the staff doesn't speak English. They'll make you wait until they find the one person who does all the time.
The hotel was very hard to find. The beach is far away from it.
The room is really nice and confortable, but you can't sleep in there. There is loud music and people yelling in the corridors until late at night. 
And it starts again early in the morning with loud music on top of it.
I'll never go again.
