It was my friends wedding where I had the honour of being best man.  Matara was absolutely magical!  The venue was just perfect and when complimented by such fantastic weather, I dont think the bride and groom or we as guests could have experienced anything better!  The different areas, the koi filled ponds, the lawn, the house, the plants... well the list is endless and whoever has put it all together over the years, including the staff, has done a superb job....bravo indeed! 
I stayed in one of the zen rooms, I think Star if memory serves me correctly, and it was lovely ... the bed was extremely comfy and the bedding was divine!  A luxurious get away perfect for many occasions I am sure but particularly for a wedding!

For a wedding with a difference it could be the place for you. Their ethos isn't my ethos but purely as a location it's very good. I came to a wedding as a guest and was very well treated. The wedding was good the food was excellent! Accommodation locally isn't wonderful. Thus we staying in a chain hotel in Swindon, just a 40minute easy drive away.

Fantastic venue for a family wedding recently. The great wedding breakfast was served by friendly staff after very tasty canapés. The main atrium room was especially decorated by The Bride and family and looked fantastic. Altogether an excellent day. Those who stayed were impressed with their rooms.

We celebrated our daughter's wedding at Kingscote church after which we walked through the delightful grounds of Matara to an excellent reception held on the lawns in front of the house where we were staying.  The venue was so different, tranquil and relaxing.  Food was delicious and the whole Matara team catered and looked after us from the moment we arrived to the time when we sadly had to leave.

We came to this venue for a wedding reception, beautiful surroundings,very tranquil and spiritual, facilities excellent,bar prices pretty fair, accomodating staff,fish n chips amazing, plenty of chill out areas too,great place for a wedding.

Our youngest daughter was married at Kingscote church and we stayed 2 nights and had the reception at Matara. What a wonderful venue, so many places for guests to enjoy. Lots of indoor and outdoor space, the gardens are huge, lots of flowers, an eclectic range of furniture, lots of statues, paintings etc. The reception food was excellent and the service was very good, nothing was too much trouble. 

We stayed in the 12 rooms in the house and also the 4 Zen rooms, very comfortable beds, well decorated and lots of rooms to relax in too. There was even a jukebox. Good size kitchen was very well equipped. 

The owner was there to ensure everything is as you want it and we had a pleasant chat with him and he told us the history of the house.

I would highly recommend this venue either for a wedding or large family get-together.

A fantastic place to have a wedding any type of wedding you want. There are 28acres of gardens a beautiful 10 bedroom house which is available. My gra daughter had her wedding there in a what was like a Japanese garden with fishpond and beautiful reception room. Highly recommend this place worth looking at their website.we had the whole weekend there.

We enjoyed a contemplative wander around the gardens which have been laid out well. There are plenty of new trees planted there from couples who have got married and trees planted in memory of loved ones. I was slightly concerned the trees didn't look as loved as they should bearing in mind their importance.

What a fantastic venue for a wedding, the grounds are stunning, the venue rooms are beautifully decorated and the whole atmosphere was relaxing, it was a beautiful day weather wise which certainly made the day. Food we had was also very good from the canapés through to the main meal.
The only criticism is there seemed a total lack of anyone in charge, and lots of young staff with no direction, made for a mixed service, on a very hot day it would have been a good idea to have offered water to guests upon arrival, had tables and chairs in the shade or had a gazebo up to offer shade for guests.

We got married here over the weekend and the venue is absolutely stunning! Everyone spoke about how unique it was and had so many gorgeous little corners. 

However, the communication from the venue wasn’t great and they changed some of the venue layout the week before our wedding without telling us so when I arrived to set up the day before the wedding we realised we could no longer have the pictures we wanted and had to call our celebrant and photographer less than 24 hours before the big moment and try and scout a new area with lighting. They kindly said we could use the big house and there are some lovely settings for big pictures in there. However, when we went to go in after the ceremony someone had locked the house up so we couldn’t access it leaving all our guests standing in the rain whilst we located a member of the team or found a way in.

The evening members of the team were lovely as well but the handover didn’t go very smoothly so we ended up having a lot of food put out that shouldn’t have been done so and cost us a considerable amount of extra money we weren’t expecting. Chairs were also put in front of our cake so the evening guests missed it and didn’t have any as people were sat in front of it! Again, this seemed to be a communication error.

The chef on the day was amazing and the food was perfect for the main meal and the canapés. His kitchen is so clean you could eat off the floor!!! He was kind, helpful and a very talented man.

The accommodation is fantastic but a little over priced for what you get. The breakfast was served at the pub over the road but was very poor (hard cooked poached eggs and over an hour to be served). I would recommend going elsewhere or bringing your own to have as a family in the honeymoon lodge (which is stunning!) 

So yes, an amazing unique venue, but they have some hiccups they needed to sort out which did make our day more stressful and more expensive than needed. The team there were very welcoming and had a lovely attitude towards us and the day in the face of nerves!
