We visited The Boat House for a light light before going for a walk. 
Lovely location right on the river. Food was very good (we had meze and calamari and truffle chips. 
My real reason for this review was to say what a really great waitress we had in Amelia. She was quickly there whenever we wanted her, always with a smile and showed an interest in us and what we were doing. She was a real credit to the place. Thank you Amelia. 

A superb building at Christchurch Quay. Lots of seats inside and out overlooking the park and the river/harbour with a great atmosphere.
Appeals to all ages. Great eatery. We have dropped in for a cuppa several times and the odd drink. So decided to book a table for the eve.
We sat outside with a view across the park and river. There was a solo singer/guitar player with a lovely smooth voice.  The staff were v friendly and the manager made sure we were happy with our table. Food was delicious and v tasty.  (There is also bar food which looked and smelt yummy).  This is open all seasons and well worth a visit.

But confused when we arrived as no one was there to check us in. A kind man showed us where our keys were hidden so we could get up to our room. We were able to pre-order breakfast on a menu left for us in our room. Good range on Wi-Fi, room was clean and well presented, good range of channels on the tv though a couple of buttons on the remote were broken. Shower was lovely and hot, and had good power behind it, and the bed was very comfortable. The only negative thing was the bathroom door wouldn't open all the way and would hit the side of the bed, and it was abit chilly at night, though we didn't notice the little radiator in the wardrobe. The owners were extremely friendly and attentive and the breakfast was gorgeous. Would love to stay again. 

We arrived on Thursday and we were met by Bob the owner who took us up to our room.The Kennedy, an adequate double room, VERY Clean. The paint work on the skirting boards was chipped but you expect that with peoples suitcases being manoeuvred around. The shower was a little loud on operation (our opinion) as we had to get up early and did not want to disturb the other guests in the room next door. The breakfasts were great, and well presented. The entrance to the small carpark at the rear of the building is very challenging, and I would suggest that before negotiating the drive too put your wing mirrors in. I did not notice on the B&B's blurb of facilities that they had hairdryers in the rooms so I took mine, however there was one. If you are a person who likes sweetener at all in your drinks or on your cereal, I would suggest you take your own as there did not appear to be any available.

Enjoyable stay

We live not too far from Christchurch and have previously visited the boathouse on many regular occasions, however, our most recent visit was met with horrendously slow service, dirty cups and cutlery, no offer of coffee/tea refills,  average quality food, and young girls wearing not a lot who were serving us, it's not a night club...  We will not be visiting again!

Don't go!

An unfortunate stay I shan’t do again. Owners expect you to fill out a form indicating what you wanted for breakfast the next morning... ridiculous. Of course we got it wrong as we tried to organize our four weary Canadian selves with luggage at a counter-less sign in area as as big as a postage stamp. Stair case leading up to the floor my sister an I were on was a trick and the key to our door was like something you’d see in a museum. It flopped around in the keyhole and as I was just about to give up it opened the door. There was no way in Gods green earth I was going to lock it from the inside with that key (which is what you have had to do to secure your room) in case of fire. We would have never been able to get it unlocked in a timely manner had there been an emergency, so our bags were put in front of it . Really, it wasn’t any of the things I have and could mention that’s the reason for this less than stellar review, it’s the owners attitude that was the single most important problem here. If you take time to read the negative reviews I whole heartedly agree. The lovely rosier ones I suggest you take with a grain of salt if you get my meaning. To the owners of White House; We certainly do know what it takes to run a business and have done so for 45 successful years ( just in case you think we don’t have a clue what it’s like).

Canadian travelers say not a good pick.

Went with the family, food was excellent, the foreign staff attitude was awful, the short fat guy behind the bar had the nastiest attitude I've ever met, won't be returning anytime soon, if you manage this place sack the foreign guy behind the bar his rudeness is beyond belief totally disgusting attitude.

Staff disgusting attitude..

Insecure owners barging in on their customers. Installed cameras in the suite, awful behaviour. Owners are extremely insecure and are transphobic. Absolutely childish disgraceful behaviour. Should be ashamed of yourselves.
