Every time we come here (guess 10 times in last 2 years) we always leave saying we should come more often.  Great food in a friendly environment. Made even better by loads of great walks nearby. Does food all day which makes last minute visits easier. Highly recommend coming here.

What an absolute gem. Warm friendly atmosphere with great staff . We booked for a Sunday roast after a trip around Exmoor . Top marks for an excellent roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, cooked to perfection. Ten out of ten , a great find in a beautiful part of England

A fantastic meal at the Royal Oak last night. Very tasty venison steak and plenty of it, with delicious salad. For dessert a creme brulee with fruits and peanut brittle, which was perfect. Very accommodating staff and a beautiful setting. All very reasonably priced.

A great welcome, very friendly, lovely, comfy, spacious room. Mouth watering meals and great choice of drinks. Although we had a lovely Valentine meal, we were in the public bar, next to the bar which was a bit noisy, table in the restaurant would have been preferred for a bit more privacy. Still we had a wonderful stay.

Lovely, quiet inn in the heart of Exmoor.Super, friendly staff.Just beware of low beams, as over our bed, or you might hurt your head!! Go with relaxation and a slow pace in mind.Beautiful views all around.

New Year’s Eve dinner with friends. 
Popped us in a comfy corner . Very clean and tidy everywhere. 
3 of us had roasts beef , pork and lamb absolutely gorgeous. Loads of meat and fantastic selection of vegetables all cooked to perfection. 1 had fish and chips which was equally cooked to perfection. Lemon roulade and cream for dessert. 
Lovely staff looked after us so well. Really friendly and kind nothing was too much trouble. 
Fabulous location plenty of parking . Facilities all cleaned beautifully.

Wow! What a lovely place to eat, drink & stay. We were made to feel so welcome when we arrived. Our room was clean, comfy & spacious. Dinner was excellent, service was great. Breakfast was possibly the best we’ve ever had & once again the service was fantastic.

Such a fabulous pub . Beautifully maintained and so clean and tidy everywhere. The loos were great too. 
Service was excellent a lovely lady serving us. Compliments to the chef as the food was delicious perfect amount of time between the courses. Beautifully cooked. Lovely presentation.

Absolutely lovely food (Saturday night &Sunday lunch) great service and nice atmosphere. Six friends visiting for a short break, nice to have a pub so close with good food. We reserved our table online easily some months before, but they were ready and waiting for us Thanks all 👏👏

New Year’s Eve treat

This was a difficult place to find, parking is hit and miss in their car park (on street parking available but narrow lanes) arrived at very busy time, so staff not as attentive, just handed key and had to ask where to go (then shown). Issues with tv, but staff came to sort out, but problem reoccurred (managed to sort out ourselves) Hot water in bathroom needs a warning sign as it was almost scalding and could be a danger to children. Didn't realise rooms above the bar, so noisy for a while, but finished at reasonable time. Breakfast was great, plenty of choice and very tasty, service was good too. Dont expect to much with the decor, as it is an old property. Cleanliness was certainly  a priority. Overal happy with stay, the staff work really hard. Would stay again.

Dinner with friends

Visited this lovely bar / hotel on Exmoor as part of the Exmoor Food Festival. It didn't disappoint. We both had a fantastic meal and were more than satisfied when we left.  Starters were Fish Cakes and Duck Breast followed by Somerset Brie stuffed Chicken Breast wrapped in Bacon and Braised Venison. I was just about able to enjoy dessert of Clementine Posset with Shortbread. 

Not Pub Food but Pub Food Elevated and worthy of the Food Festival.

Have visited before as live locally and food and service always excellent. First time we have had Sunday lunch and will definitely be back. We had nut roast and roast beef, both fantastic and perfectly done vegetables al dente, cauliflower cheese could have benefited from more sauce, portion sizes excellent. Our little dog made to feel very welcome treats and water. Staff truly amazing attentive and very personable… basically what’s not to like (cold toilet but to be expected in an old pub!) fantastic pub/staff/area/food. Even though local will be booking into rooms soon to save the drive. Thank you to all at the Royal Oak.

We have just had our Christmas week staying in Withypool and have been using the Royal oak for both eating and drinking. Tracey and the team have been absolutely brilliant, the menu is varied and the food is excellent. If you are in or around Withypool a visit to the Royal oak is a must, I cannot recommend enough !!!!!!

A must visit !! 

The husband and I stayed with our dog on a Saturday night in November. From the minute we arrived (mid afternoon as the weather was atrocious) we were welcomed warmly and made to fee at home. The room was furnished nicely and the bed was comfy. The food was lovely and portions generous. Tracy the owner was great fun and we enjoyed her company. Breakfast was also excellent and there was a good choice of cooked options. Would definitely recommend!
