Stopped off to see if Sunday Luch was served. Roast beef with five different vegetables has to be good value at £14 so the warm welcome turned into lunch. The decor was typical country style, the tables well spaced, the dining areas meticulously clean and the service surprisingly quick. Locals enjoying the pub added to the atmosphere too. The food was good quality pub food and tasty. Highly recommended.

First time we’ve eaten here. Accommodated our nervous dog with no issues. Very friendly staff.
Nothing was too much trouble. Had Camembert starter shared with my husband. Then lasagne and rump steak. All cooked perfectly and decent portions. Lovely bottle of red wine - good value. We will be back 😊

Haven’t been out here for years … a fantastic treasure hidden away … a beautiful, old pub. Like stepping back in time, gentle, peaceful and welcoming …. 
We had a fantastic Sunday lunch …. Excellent portion, excellent value. Super tasty with a lovely dessert for afters. 
We recommend everyone go seek out this wonderful pub … great food, peaceful atmosphere… a way to step off the rat race …. Fantastic… we will defo be back and will be telling all our friends

A super lunch, lovely friendly staff  and landlord, great food- especially pie of the day. Good portions and excellent service.Made our cocker spaniel very welcome snd just a relaxing enjoyable experience. So nice to visit a traditional country pub..Thank you so much.

Lovely village pub.  Great local beers. Perfect for a summer evening with friends.  Dog friendly.  Garden with a super view over the Bride Valley.  Certainly worth a detour.  Particularly if the sun is out.  

We had a great reasonably priced Sunday Lunch (a chicken & a pumpkin vegan option) with good selection of real ales and gins. Returned for curry dinner next evening. Great atmosphere, welcoming staff and owners.  Dog & Person friendly. Puncknowle is a lovely village with beautiful views and buildings.

After a false start made it following day. So glad we did first visit for around forty years. Pub is timeless  staff so fun helpful polite chearful.
Food absolutely excellent and at a fair price. Scores 12/10

Excellent food. Excellent staff. Excellent beer. A lovely place to while away an evening and all the staff were friendly and helpful. We ate here twice and had different things each night, enjoying both meals. We were too full for puddings though… thanks to the owners for a lovely experience.

A mid week lunch stop at this pub should not be missed. 
We felt safe and well looked after. 
The landlady and landlord were busy doing table service as it was a beautiful sunny day , but nothing was too much trouble. 
I ordered from the specials board - chicken and bacon on a salad with home made croutons, this came and was simply Scrumptious . The portion size was plenty, I’m definitely going back for this again. 
Nice garden, amazing food and wonderful table service. What more could you want ?

Great value hidden in West Dorset

A wonderful, peaceful pub with great food.

Gem of a Pub

We stayed in a lovely cottage in the area, and after scouring the local area for a mid week pub tea we came across this place for just honest pub grub without being ripped off with the price. In fact we visited twice.

Yep, it’s not a fancy dancy salad garni sort of food, with a splurge of something blobbed on your plate to justify the price, it’s uncomplicated pub grub. Where we live our local pub serves fantastic food of which we visit at least a couple times a month, but that meal experience is quite pricey when you include the cost of drinks. The Crown was at least half the price of our local, just to be fed some food.

We felt that The Crown was filling a gap in the market. They served decent food at a fair price. We probably wouldn’t go there for a Sunday lunch for example but for a mid week tea it was fine.
We tried to book at another local pub but the landlord seemed to get a thrill in telling us he was full up, that pub was probably 3 times the price. We did have a pub tea at another local pub but we grateful we were sat down when we got the bill, it just was not worth the artistic food placed just so on the plate!

I think the Crown could perhaps up its game a bit? It’s a good location and very nice inside. The food was a bit out of the freezer type, but it was cooked well and we didn’t feel cheated.
For tea it’s fine. For special event then maybe no.

Great for a midweek pub tea

We booked in for a Monday lunch to say cheerio to our week's holiday in Puncknowle (pronounced Punnel). We were not disappointed. Super welcoming landlady. I had steak and chips which was great and hit the spot and my other half enjoyed the lamb shank. My son demised hus good size child's portion of scampi and chips. We played pool and will return next year for sure.

Bought a takeaway here tonight  scampi and chips  and fish an chips   very good indeed  hot food   very tasty  and fresh
 I must say  the chips are the best in the area for miles will definitely be back  takeaway  all sold under lock down rules   too very impressed .Will try the pie and chips next time  as the Crown also sells other takeaways  .and apparently..Sunday lunch !!! I think that would be a lovely idea for my birthday dinner .so maybe treat from not cooking  for a change 



Takeaway 

This is a reasonably large and attractive village pub. 
They are trying very hard to stay open for business in these extremely challenging times and we were made very welcome. 
The menu was limited due to lockdown restrictions but everything was delicious especially the homemade soup and the pigs in blankets bap. 
This is a Palmers pub so 2 of their lovely ales were on draft alongside a good selection of other dinks. 
Very friendly and helpful staff. 
There is a large, well furnished beer garden with stunning views out over the Dorset countryside.
