Fantastic
243 reviewsIt was our first visit to Chepstow and we stayed overnight while walking the Wales Coast Path on a couple of very cold but sunny days in the new year. Walking high above the estuary across the Severn Bridge from Aust on the English side was an exhilarating experience. Chepstow is an attractive ancient town, and the Three Tuns is a very old pub right next to the Castle and the river. We had a very warm welcome at the end of our walk. Sorry I don’t know the name of the friendly young lady who showed us to our room - but keep up your Welsh! It’s lovely to hear the language being spoken in Monmouthshire so close to the border. Our room was quirky but warm and comfortable, with plenty of tea and coffee and a small but smart en suite wc/shower room. The Three Tuns is very atmospheric and lively, and the customers and staff were all very friendly. Unfortunately they don’t serve food in the evening. Chepstow has a lot of nice looking restaurants but most were closed for a break right after new year! But the Stone Rock pizza place was very good. We were asked to choose breakfast the evening before but there was plenty of choice and the excellent breakfast was freshly served at our chosen time. The rooms and drinks at the bar were very reasonably priced. We aim to explore more of the coast and mountain paths in Monmouthshire and certainly hope to stay again at the Three Tuns. Diolch yn fawr to all at the pub.
