George Borrow Hotel

We stayed one night on our way to the coast. There was a walm, helpful greeting and our room was clean and cosy. Evening meal was excellent.

Friendly , great food and very reasonably priced. Would stay again.

The staff were all very helpful and friendly. I am looking forward to a return stay at some point in the future.

The hosts could not do enough for you. Ideal for a night passing through - good traditional no fuss evening menu. Breakfast was full traditional & plentiful - a great start to the day.

From securing my motorcycle to a bacon roll to go as I wasn’t feeling hungry made to feel like it was a home away from home.

Booked as a one night stop whilst touring on a motorbike, great on site parking and also had the offer of parking the bike in a garage. It’s perfectly safe. The evening food was freshly cooked and a great choice. The breakfast sets you up for the day and again all freshly cooked.

Located in a lovely part of Wales this place has the best staff who are lovely, genuinely welcoming and helpful. The food reminded me of my mum's coming in a very good way indeed with delicious options for every taste with gluten free and veggie options. Good home style cooking. Bedrooms are neat, spotless and comfy. Location is just gorgeous, make sure to take a stroll into the low hills behind and see the waterfall and river. Did I say the people were lovely, cos they are.

Stayed one night on a cycling tour of mid Wales. Very pleasant experience, comfortable accommodation and welcoming staff. Good menu for evening meal and plenty of choice at breakfast. Meals are served in dining room with outstanding views across stunning countryside. Secure bike accommodation provided, too. Recommended and would happily return.

Very Welcoming

Needed somewhere to eat en-route and local petrol station suggested I might just get a meal ordered at the George Borrow, before their 8pm shut off.
Immediately a friendly, helpful welcome from the landlady. I had the beef pie and ordered some extra gravy.
The pie came out, looking wholesome (not served in a pie dish which I appeciated). Lovely puff pastry crust revealed attractive chunks of tasty, tender beef in an amazing beef gravy.
The pie was actually beautifully moist itself, but the extra (same) gravy added to the perfection.
35 years of regular stays in pubs, hotels and lodges and this is the best pue I have ever been served.

Amazing Beef Pie!

Karen, one of the owner, could not have been more helpful. We were there for one night to go to my dad’s funeral. I had to ring the hotel twice for  advice about something and Karen went out of her way to help.Breakfast was lovely a good selection and set us up for the day. Although the building is old it was spotless. A beautiful waterfall at the bottom of the garden. Lots of bird life flying around. Perfect.Thank you Karen and family

We were visiting the Uni in Aberystwyth the following morning and with a 4 hour journey needed an affordable, easy to find stop off. The staff were so friendly. Room was perfect for our quick overnight stay. Very quiet area with great views.Lovely traditional bar to have a relaxing drink and snack in. Didn’t eat at hotel but the dining space looked clean and inviting. Will definitely use this hotel again as my son will be attending the uni from Sep I will be making that journey often and there lots of attractions to visit in the area.

Excellent and very  friendly welcome after 11pm (as we had travel problems,) nothing was too much trouble when we arrived and were greeted by a lovely lady.
A large carpark.
Breakfast was hot and fresh, cooked perfectly to our liking - also eaten in a fantastic dining room with amazing views and at least 6 variety’s of birds to watch on the feeder etc. a nut hatch feeding upside down was a treat.
A comfy sleep and again fabulous view to wake up to from our window overlooking the garden. 
Soap shower gel and plenty of toilet roll provided in shower room which was of a good size (I have stayed in son where you could not even turn or move on the loo lol!)
We will be recommending a stay here to all our friends - thank you for a wonderful stay.

Perfect stay perfect host - recommended :-)

My sister and I stayed here for one night for a family funeral nearby. Karen and her daughter Claire were so accommodating and welcoming we were really pleased we chose George Borrow to stay. The twin room we stayed in was really clean and has everything we needed, even a hairdryer. The beds were really comfy and we had a beautiful view of the snow topped mountains outside. Lovely family run hotel, good wholesome food, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. 
Very clean, comfortable room with en-suite facilities. Excellent menu choices and lovely breakfast. Couldn’t fault it, we will be back. 
Excellent location for walking in the Cambrian mountains.

Lovely family run hotel 

Chose this hotel from previous reviews and have been delighted.  It is that rarity, a deservedly successful family-run small hotel.  Excellent dinner, excellent breakfast, room with a good bed, ensuite shower and great view.  Karen, Rob, Claire and Mark look after all of us with professional standards and attention to detail yet at the same time make us feel like honoured members of the family.  And all for a fair price.  Thank you all so much!

The staff are very friendly and hospitable. The food we had for both eve meal and breakfast was perfectly acceptable indeed. In fact the portions are very generous. The room was comfortable, warm with the aid of an electric radiator, one side of the bed had a low beam which made walking round difficult. 
The only negative I have is when you arrive the place looks unkempt and on the tatty side, which must put a lot of passers by off. Bit of time spent tidying up would make all the difference. We would stay again as we know what it’s like inside.

Don’t be put off by the exterior. Once inside It’s basic but absolutely fine.
