Had a wonderful 5 day stay here with my family.  The location is conveniently almost right at the Ella central area but on a hill that keeps it away from all the hustle and bustle. A bit of a steep climb but that is one of the charms of Ella. Place is run by a family who are very warm and welcoming. They genuinely go the extra mile to make your stay special. Rooms have all the basic facilities and are very clean. Absolute value for money.

Excellent place to Stay in Ella. Spent 31st Night in Ella and nothing to regret with the stay. Rock Face has all you need in one place. Clean, neat and tidy bed rooms, unmatchable excellent service by the owner and her daughter made our stay extremely comfortable. We were in a group so booked 4 rooms. They have a family room in ground floor, a Triple room and 2 double rooms in the 1st floor, and 3 double rooms in the 3rd floor. All the rooms have hot water and clean bathrooms. Highly recommend Rock Face for your stay. The place is located uphill with a beautiful view, so be ready to drive through a steep road.

The perfect stay; the bedroom and bathroom were immaculate woth lots of space. The staff were amazing and helped in many ways. Great views from the room, in the very centre of town and great value for money.

My experience at the rock face was wonderful. The bedrooms are really comfortable and they have all you need. They all come with a lovely balcony. Most importantly, the host are really kind and welcoming, always with a smile, and they are open to help you with everything you ask. Also, if you opt for having dinner there the quality and taste of the food is amazing. Please try the curry :)

Beautiful experience

Amazing central location in Ella with just a 1 minute walk down to the Main Street full of cafes and restaurants. 
The view of Ella rock and the valley from the wrap around balcony was incredible, especially at sunrise and sunset. The ladies also did all our washing and organised a taxi for us to go to Kandy. The room was very comfortable with a big bathroom and hot water (which can be hard to come by!). 
Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed for two nights. the owner was very nice and helpful. she gave us a discount on room rates and was kind enough to arrange a scooty for hire for us. She was very professional and during the power cut in the night she switched on the generator though we were the only guests. Room was clean, a big comfortable bed, a fan, a mosquito net , blankets, an electric kettle &hot water. From the upper floor room we stayed, over other rooftops we had a nice view of the ella rock and little Adam's peak. it's definitely worth the price.
the hotel is right in the centre of the town a small walk from the train station and bus stop. there is a very steep walk to get there on foot but if that is difficult can take another road by a tuk or a vehicle. (if you want a nice view need to climb a hill in ella). we didn't mind the climb as we really liked our stay here. honestly nothing bad to say about the place.


lovely..worth the price

We spent 4 nights here after having taken the beautiful train ride from Nuwara Eliya to Ella. The location is perfect: close to everything, whilst being a bit uphill from the busy Main Street of Ella. This gives you a nice view over the city and the beautiful nature, and it is more quiet than other hotels (although you can still hear some sounds from the city). Loved falling asleep and waking up to the sound of birds. There’s also a Mongoose and a squirrel living nearby, and you might see them if you pay attention. The family who owns the place are simply amazing. So nice and warm. Ask them about anything regarding your trip and they will help you out and give you good advice. We had some problems with our hot water one day, but this was fixed immediately after we made the owners aware of this. There are some construction activity nearby (Ella  is expanding due to tourism), but we never heard any noise from the construction work.  All in all, this is a great budget  hotel that gives you good value for your money. They will also help you with taxi services and laundry ++ to affordable prices. I will recommend this place to all my friends and family visiting Sri Lanka wanting a nice hotel, at a low price. Will stay here again next time. 

I see that many of the reviews are complaining about the steep hill that you have to walk up to get to the hotel. Yes, there’s a steep hill, but it’s not too long and really adds to the charm of the place. Ella is a mountain village, so you will encounter lots of hills whilst staying here. Think of it as good exercise and a nice warm-up to the beautiful hikes of Ella Rock and Adam’s Breeze! Also, the calories that you burn will allow you to eat more delicious rice and curry!

Great location and extraordinary hospitality

We stayed there only one night but was really worth it. This place is very clean and well looked after. Our room was very nice on the top floor far corner with spectacular views! The owner is extremely hospitable and wants to please in a big way. We should stay there longer, maybe next time. Highly recommended! 

Great homestay! 

So fresh balcony with wanderful views, clean,quiet,very confortable bed and nice staff. Enough far from the noisy village but enough close by foot. Much better than you can see at pictures.Simply perfet!
