We were fortunate to stay at the Blowhole Cottage for one night. The views were amazing, and the space was both clean and cosy. It had a cute, charming vibe that made it feel like a perfect little getaway. Definitely a great spot to relax and enjoy the scenery! We would definitely highly recommend.


We had a very comfortable stay here when we visited the nearby Pancake Rocks in Puakaiki.  The unit is very well furnished and the owners have clearly put a lot of thought into making sure that visitors have a comfortable stay.  It looks as if the owners also own the Pancake Rocks Cafe but unfortunately as we arrived late one evening and left fairly early the next, we weren't able to talk to them to tell them how much we enjoyed our stay.  There is a very welcoming Tourist Information Centre (run by the Department of Conservation I think) near the Pancake Rocks entrance which looked as if it had just been opened.  As we found throughout our NZ trip, the staff in the TIC were very friendly and helpful.

We have stayed at the Punakaiki Park motel several times and will certainly do so again. It’s everything that you need for a visit to the stunning West Coast: exceptional location and views, clean, comfortable and well equipped rooms, and charming hosts. 
The Blow Holes cottage has been recently renovated and has amazing views. We stayed one night but could easily have stayed longer.

We have been touring NZ and we drove to Punakaiki to visit the national park and see the pancake rocks. It was definitely worth the long drive on the west coast in a rainy day:  the pancake rocks coastline is an incredible supernatural wonder that one can only be appreciated in person. In addition, the Paparoa Park Motel was an excellent overnight experience:  it is definitely the coolest room we have ever stayed in.  I admired the architectural design of the units and the construction with beautiful wood and natural materials and it's functionality. The room was clean and comfortable as well: we wish we had booked it for an extra night. 

Excellent location & room. Was disappointed there was no milk in the room & unable to purchase it from anywhere close. Because of self check in procedure we were unable to contact staff etc. Apart from that, great price & highly recommended.

We spent an amazing weekend in the Seaside Cottage. The accommodation is clean, comfy with an amazing view.  The nikau trees in the garden are the final touch of this stunning place. All modern facilities are provided. Highly recommended.

This beautiful cottage was one of the nicest surprises of our recent NZ adventure. It’s new, spacious and sparkling clean, with a large well-equipped kitchen, two comfy couches and a huge flat-screen TV. The sliders lead to a private yard with native bush, palm trees and a jaw-dropping view of the ocean and Pancake Rocks. We really wished we had an extra day or two in our itinerary to hang out here and relax - loved it.

Peaceful and well presented, easy self checkin and a number to call if you needed any support. Cabins are all arranged to give privacy and maximise views so they all look good really. There is an older motel style block at the front near the road that are obviously different to these.
Gardens well established and bringing in birds which add to the scenery.  We came in winter and were warm and the cabins were snug and kept out the wind without any problems.
Kitchenette had facilities for simple cooking.
The only drawback is that there is literally no where to buy bread, milk or any grocery essentials in the town which would have been good to know when we booked, and their booking site listed an on-site laundry which they don't have, inconvenient but if you knew in advance it would be easy to plan around. Overall a lovely location and very beautiful and comfortable cabin.

Nicely located on the edge of town, and our cabin had a great view of the coast (the Blow Hole cabin).  My one small negative was that the windows lacked screens so we were concerned about opening them lest the sand flies come to visit.  As it turned out, the weather was cool and we were very comfortable.  Folks running the place were friendly and helpful.

PROS:  Fantastic view of the beach

CONS:
        NO SCREENS on any of the windows (Sandflies will eat you alive)
        No Closet Storage.  Shelves available, but if you need to hang something, no dice.
        No spatula for fry pan
        The bed CREAKS with the slightest movement

This place is nicer than the reviews would lead you to  believe.  The Views are fantastic.  When we arrived the interior was too warn.  No Fan was available, so we opened all the windows. Which worked great until we were over run with sandflies.   Then we had to close all the windows to save ourselves from using deet before bed.  The bedroom was too warm to sleep with the windows closed so I opened the outside deck door and slept on the couch — to hell with the bugs.   Later in the early morning it seemed safe to open the windows to cool the interior down for sleeping.  

The windows are such that screens can not be added, but it is a real shame with the heat and the bugs.   You need the windows open to be comfortable, but the bugs will come in to join you.   Having the unit air conditioned or at least providing a fan would go a long way to making it better.

The coolest design unit we have ever stayed at

Arrived late in the dark - didn't take long to figure out the self-service system and get settled in to the unit, the seaside cottage.  It would have been nice if the heat pump had pre-warmed the place but didn't take long.  Very new and clean.  Only complaint the electric blanket on the queen bed had ridden down to the bottom of the bed so had to strip and remake it - not sure how it wasn't noticed by who ever had make the bed.  Small detail though.  Unit well equipped and fantastic outlook.  Very friendly local wekas visited and clearly used to interacting with humans!  Didn't see our hosts at all during our overnight stay but would love to go back and stay a couple of nights to see more of the area.

Seaside Cottage

The 4 rating is totally for the sea views from the clifftop deck which are amazing and offer great views of the shoreline and famous pancake rocks.  Check in was interesting - self check in with key hanging on board with your unit and name.  Land line was available beside check in board if there were any issues, but thankfully we didn't have to test it. Just happened to see a sign to glow worms as we walked to our studio unit. Later that night we followed the sign and walked about 25 feet into the forest to see the glow worms.  Info about the walk and how best to see the glow worms would be an excellent addition.
Now the opportunities - the studio could use a really good dusting.  With the coastal moisture, there were dust collections everywhere and several surfaces that hadn't seen a cloth in quite some time.  We didn't need to use the kitchen facilities but they could use some attention as well.
The location was great, but based on other NZ accommodations the rate should have been much less than $190.

It was ok but not $190 ok

we stayed in Blowhole Cottage which overlooked the Pancakes Rocks and Blowholes in the distance.  The parking was a bit tight, but at least close by. the size of the cottage was adequate for the two of us and the views were outstanding.  The self checkin was easy.  The location is remote so you need a car.  There was a hob, microwave, kettle and toaster, but no oven.  The bathroom was very small.  After an hour we had a friend turn up, a female Weka.  The next morning we had her and a chick who enjoyed a selection of treats.  The Pancake Rocks and blowholes are a five minute drive away.
