Microtel Lodge Hamilton

I spent a week in this hotel and it was very, very clean. The hotel is a walking distance from the Waikato Stadium. The rooms are not big, but you don't really need anything more. The manager was very friendly and helpful. I'll go back there any time!

If you are booking somewhere called 'micro' a small room is expected.
However, it was a great surprise that the 'shared bathroom' was only with one other room, and there was a tv and great storage in the room.
Free towels, free wifi and free parking is always a bonus as a backpacker, so to get all 3 is a winner in my eyes.
Kitchen and bathrooms were clean and tidy.
Only a ten minute walk into the CBD and sky city.

Would recommend and stay again.

Great budget place

IMMACULATE CLEAN LITTLE HOTEL

I stayed at Microtel for one night en route to Rotorua and while the location was pretty good (walkable to CBD) the room was absolutely tiny - virtually just a bed. There was a shared shower and toilet between two rooms which was ok and I'd give the kitchen a big tick for cleanliness. It was ok for one night but I couldn't have stayed longer - the room was just too small. Nice people though.

Teeny tiny room but good location

When i turned down the bed the top sheet had several long black hairs literally sitting on top of the sheet. Someone had been sleeping in my bed. It must have been goldilock's friend. They weren't weaved through the fabric as asserted. I have short brown hair. When questioned the woman said " oh that will be the washing machine. They obviously haven't just come off" I took photos of them. Then all the forks in the shared kitchen had hard food stuck to them. DIsgusting. Then to finish off the stay, the shower in the morning had luke warm water. Not the start you want when you have an interview assessment day ahead of you

Interview Preparation

On the positive side the WiFi was good and so was the shower. The staff were welcoming and friendly. However, the kitchen and cooking facilities were horrible. The only 2 saucepans had revolving handles - a serious scald waiting to happen. The stove was greasy, the drying cloth was filthy and the kitchen itself was falling apart. The room was dark and too small to put bags down so we kept them in the car. We have stayed in accommodation that was similarly priced but so much better
