Wun Tawp Garden Hotel

I chose this place because it has a pool. Be aware that local kids have swimming lessons in the pool so it can get crowded in the afternoon, but I still enjoyed it. The breakfast was much better than I expected. It was lovely to have breakfast in the garden! The room was fine with a spacious bathroom and screen windows. There is an interesting temple just down the road and an interesting and lively fresh market a block or two away.

We stayed a couple of nights at this delightful open plan hotel. Unpretentious, friendly, clean and convenient for the town. 
   It offers free wi fi, swimming pool and good sized rooms with hot water, tea making facilities. The staff are only too happy to help. 
    Quite a joy and good value.

In February 2017, we were lucky to stay at this hotel. We met the manager who was caring enough to arrange for his sister and his son to take us around the area. We felt so privileged to be looked after in such an exceptional way. We discovered the sites and learned more about the culture. Thank you again to the three people who contributed to a great stay in Myitkyina and sorry for the delay of this advice. Really nice staff, location, available bicycles, country feel with separate buildings...

The Wun Tawp is a collection of rooms scattered around shady gardens on the edge of town on the airport road.  Rear rooms quiet and clean, a/c, plenty hot water etc.

Huge well kept swimming pool on grounds. Free WiFi.

Staff are customary Myanmar friendly, though English limited.

Popular with NGO types - not much tourism in Myitkyina.

OK breakfast, plus the excellent Lido restaurant just 50m away.  Interesting pagoda complex just beyond.

Over 1km to town: tuk-tuks elusive, need to call.

My husband and I spent a week here, while running a workshop.  The bungalow room was large, with a work area, great shower with lots of hot water, and screened windows so we could turn off the AC.  Because the hotel is situated on a main road, there is a fair amount of truck noise (but alleviated when windows are closed and AC is on), plus the occasional rumble from the ever-present generator when there is a power failure.  This is much improved from our last visit to Myitkyina a few years ago.

Staff is exceptionally welcoming and helpful, fixing a friend’s bike we had borrowed, arranging transport as needed, nothing was too much trouble.  Perhaps this is due to the manager, who told us he runs the place like a family business, even though it is quite large.  And it is aptly named ‘Garden Hotel’; there are lots of trees and green plants, including a lychee tree outside our door that conveniently dropped its fruit at our doorstep!

The only area for improvement might be in the breakfast buffet; perhaps more fruit (bananas !) and fresh fruit juice, or dry cereal for western guests.  But that is a minor caveat; we will certainly return to Wan Tawp.

Stayed her for 2 nights and enjoyed my stay very much. The room are very spacious, clean and some have a nice veranda. Breakfast is very basic. There is a nice restaurang just 50 m from the hotel. To the citycenter is a 15 minutes walk. The places is run by a family and they was very helpful and drove me to some places in Myitkyina that I had a special interest in. Whiteout there help I would not have found them. A very nice hotel!

We flew in from Manadaly and our host took it upon himself to meet us at the airport. This set the tone of our stay. We were made to feel welcome and our host and his family made sure our short overnight stay would be memorable including his interesting views on the situation in Myit Kyina in particular and Myanmar generally. 
We visited the market by the river in the morning which is well worth doing with the abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables not to mention the fish in all shapes and sizes. 
Our rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast better than most. 
Again our host had organized the onward trip to Lake Indagwy. We left Myit Kyina real sing we had been well looked after.
