Clean, friendly staff and lots of restaurants nearby!

The shower rooms are brand new. It's wide and clean. The room has a small TV and Futon mat. The floor is barrier-free. Also, the restroom is clean.

Great overall experience, would recommend for anyone staying in the area. Simple, clean, and comfortable Japanese style room. Accomodating for when I had to extend my stay one night from a cancelled ferry.

Great property which is very clean and has good facilities. One thing to note is that check in closes quite early and there is no elevator.

Staff was very friendly and tried to be helpful but the language barrier was problematic until speaking with management.   We missed our first night and initial conversations made it appear they no longer held our reservation for the 2nd night.  Eventually we were told to check back 4 hours later but spent the day wondering if we had accommodations.   In the end, all worked out.  It was a great place and we'd all happily stay again in the future.

The property is new and clean, comfortable for family to stay

We stayed at the new building. Excellent shower and toilet facilities. There is a fully equip kitchen.

Good location walk from ferry pier and nearby bus stop.Tidy room, shower room and washroom.Provided free rental bike.Walk distance to restaurant and supermarket.But no common area and kitchen to use.

It is sad that I cannot go here as my ferry was cancelled due to bad weather conditions on the island...The host actively contacted me and asked my situation. They understood me and was willing to refund. They finished the whole process rapidly and I feel so warm to the host. I must book this hotel next time!!

This minshuku was easy to find, close to bus service (airport, Ambo Port \ access to Kitasugi and small/quaint Kusugawa onsen.  Amenities includes a nice kitchen with essentials including stove, microwave, utensils, pots and pans.  Good location.  Can be a bit noisy in early morning and then there is the public address system- ha! Played eidelweiss every morning.

good location. it was possible to walk from port to accommodation. and bus stop was very close to there. supermarket can be reached less than 10mins by walk.  Room was comfortable and clean. they serves towel, shampoo and conditioner for free. room was traditional Japanese style, so very poor to noise.

good location and reasonable room for price

A typical Minshuku: sleeping on futon on a tatami floor, and using shared toilets and bathroom. But the difference is that they have gone to a lot of effort to make it easy for English speakers to understand how everything works, and there is a basic kitchen in the room, which is unusual and welcome. There is a common use Fridge, Microwave oven and kettle. It's a bit old inside, but totally clean. Access is by some very thin stairs which could be difficult if you are carrying a heavy suitcase (but is fine with a rucksack). It's about 10 minutes walk away from Miyanoura port where the ferries and some of the jetfoils arrive. Wifi is a bit slow, but it works good enough as long as you are not hoping to do streaming (I suspect that is more about it's location on an island more that thefault of the hotel itself). Check in is in the fishing shop on the first floor, so you need to do it when the shop is open. The staff there are very friendly, and able to communicate in basic English. Overall, it's great value for the area.

Located on the main road on Yakushima. Next to bus stop and within walking distance from the Ferry Terminal.Our room is for 4 people. Large enough with simple cooking facilities.Free washing machine.One pt to note is the room is on 3rd floor and no lift. But I think it is quite common in Yakushima.Overall, it was a very nice stay.

The rooms are small but cozy. You have to take your luggage up through their very narrow stairs up to 2 stories above. The bathroom is very nice and clean. They provide shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and towels. There's a small pantry that comes with microwave, refrigerator, electric kettle, and some disposable utensils. The landlord is nice and showed us the bus schedule to the hiking place for tomorrow morning.

Small but cozy, great for backpackers.

I just stayed here for four nights during a hiking trip to wonderful Yakushima. While booking, I chose the "new building" option and it turned out to be great with immaculately clean facilities. Showers and kitchen are all new and very modern looking. The room was also a decent size. I also liked the location of the new building located few minutes walk away from the restaurant area. Highly recommended. It is a great gem for the price.

Very Modern and Clean

The minshuku is located in the center of Miyanoura, about a 10 minute walk from the port. Alrernatively, you could also take the bus from the port, because there's a stop right in front of Iwakawa.

The owners, father and son, I assume, are very nice and helpful. The place itself is very clean and simple. Definitely worth the price. 

Noise from the hall can be heard so take that into account of you're a light sleeper.

Great value for money. Nice place

Iwakawa seemed to have two different buildings. The first is as pictured on Trip Advisor, the second was more of a large house structure a quick walk away. The location was in an excellent area one block off the main road. 

I stayed in the large house building with a group of friends. We arrived a little before 10 PM on our first night and the staff was very accommodating, helping us find our way and a spot to park our vehicle. The rooms were very clean and a good size. Air conditioning worked well and I liked the fact each room had its own to control. The bathrooms were also clean with all the needed soaps and shampoos. Futon's seemed a bit thin, but I could live with it for a few nights. 

Considering the cost of other lodging in the area, Iwakawa was a great value, excellent location, and friendly staff. Would highly recommend to others traveling around Yakushima.
