I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with Enrico and his family at La Familia in November 2019.  The grounds are lush and the facilities are humble, yet stylish. The hospitality was incredible and the hosts are very friendly and down-to-earth. Enrico helped facilitate local travel and logistics and is a wealth of information about the area. Furthermore, if you are into reggae music and/or ganja culture I think you will really enjoy it. Also if you are a dog lover like me, you will be right at home. I wish I could've stayed longer, and I definitely plan to return!

Unique Vinyl & 420-themed Guesthouse

I stayed 2 nights and I was really not impressed... I had a room that shares a bathroom with two other rooms (most of the rooms are shared bathrooms). It didn't seem like the worst thing, even though I much prefer my own bathroom, HOWEVER the owners haven't put locks on the inside of the bathroom...meaning that any guest in the other two rooms can literally walk in on you naked or on the toilet!!! I couldn't believe it and when I said something to the owners who live there they shrugged indifferently and said "well you have to knock." Sorry, but I'm not very interested in being at the mercy of some drunk guy remembering to knock at 2am...it was really shocking. Then there's no soap in the shared bathroom - literally had to go out just to buy a bar of soap because i find that disgusting. I only realized the first night when I got back late that they also didn't provide any towels so I couldn't take a shower until the next day. The towel I was given stank of moth balls - why anyone would keep linens that are in constant use in a bin full of moth balls is beyond me - but very very unpleasant. The pillows are also terribly uncomfortable - they're not bedroom pillows - they're these 1 foot thick things with no give so had to sleep without a pillow. Then there's the paper thin plywood walls that separated my bed and the toilet from one of the "private bathroom" rooms. I heard every single flush and every word the couple in the other room said because there's about 4 feet between the bed I slept on their toilet - just separated by plywood. There's no filtered water to drink, there's no access to a kitchen and it's a good walk to anywhere with any water or food. Long bay is also not close to any attractions so unless you want to hang on long bay beach there's really no reason to stay that far away from port antonio (it takes about 40 minutes to get to port antonio via route taxi) and boston bay where almost all the main attractions are (frenchman's cove, blue lagoon, boston bay, winnifred beach). The owners make it seem like it's so close and there's always route taxis going by but that's not the case - it was a 40 minute wait to get a route taxi at night. And then there's all the mosquitos and other insects that bit me while I slept, despite using the mosquito net. Is there anything good about the place? There's a nice table in the one common area outside where you can sit and use their mediocre wi-fi (you can't get any signal in the rooms). Also note that you can't get any cellular reception on the entire property (Digicel always said no signal) so you can't receive or make any calls unless you walk down to the main road. Overall it's terribly inconvenient and the hosts were cold and not helpful at all.

Really not a pleasant experience.

We stayed for more than 2 weeks and It was fantastic. We felt like home and for this we have to say thanks to Enrico, Suna and Noah because we could join and enjoy many different things around and they gave us many good tips, but not only, we had the possibility to meet many people and we learnt a lot about the real Jamaica...It s really difficult to describe so I can only say just go and enjoy it! This is not a resort of course but that why we loved It! We were really sorry to leave..but we hope to be back very soon!!

So I wouldn't recommend the area for any check-ins or a place to chill. They also allow loud speakers to operate so it's annoying. No toiletries, expensive beers and ice. Imagine buying 120 peso-beer on a want-to-chill area. Right, you can't chill. Not recommended. Worst place I've ever been.

Terrible staff, terrible place, not recommended!

The guest house is immersed in the true nature of Jamaica at night a beautiful moon lights up the forest and as a background the noise of the sea a few kilometers from the main attractions of the coast accessible by public taxi if you can go and you won't regret it

The Paradise

Best place if your looking for some alone time with that special someone. My Girlfriend and i sent one night at La Familia. The owners were nice and understanding because we checked in a bit late. Loved our room, just enough space for us. The room was cool and we slept peacefully. Highly recommended for those who can be their own entertainment and just looking for a nice place to make memories.

Really close 2 the beach, but thats the only positive thing about it!

You are always around the family members, but they dont like you being around (especially the bald,  dude). The rooms are not enjoyable & full of musquitos.

U have to share bathrooms and cant even use the kitchen!! 

There arent many taxi's passing niet neither. But thats not the problem; it could be a nice place, but it is bad managed

Terrible owners making it a no go

Even though it is a beautiful place, the rooms are not well maintained and especially the bathroom.For the hostel conditions, the price seems high.The place has many possibilities but in my opinion it is missing.

I'm disappointed.

We stayed for 4 nights at La Familia in Long Bay. The place is clean, comfortable, surrounded by beautiful vegetation and a few meters from the sea. Enrico and Suna, both Italian, are very hospitable. The place is also a restaurant where they prepare Italian dishes using Jamaican products.

Relaxing Place Surrounded by Nature

I love La Familia, I feel at home, a few meters from the beach, a very nice neighborhood and the owners and their daughter are beautiful people, very good vibes, an excellent place to go with friends or solo, I hope to return soon! 100% recommended!
