Varmaland Hotel

The hotel was very clean and comfortable despite a blizzard outside. The restaurant was one of the best meals we had from two weeks in Europe. The hot tub in the freezing cold was a great experience! Finally the Schnauzer in the lobby was adorable. Great stay and I wish it were longer!

Property was beautiful and the rooms well appointed.

Clean, amazing breakfast, kind and friendly staff. Room was a little small, and blankets could have been softer, and the showers could use a door, rather than being open to the rest of the bathroom and causing water to leak all over the floor, but besides that it was a pleasant stay, beautiful area around the hotel, and very clean and high class hotel. I’d recommend.

The hotel was beautifully designed. The restaurant has a 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains. The view from our room was fantastic well. We weren’t there long enough to experience additional facilities. The man and woman at the desk when we checked in were very helpful in trying to help us track down a lost wallet and they even let us borrow a flashlight. The bed was comfortable. My only complaint is that the sink is very small so water got splashed when I was washing my face. However this is pretty standard in Iceland so I won’t deduct any stars for that small annoyance. Breakfast was good and they had great coffee. We saw the northern lights. Overall great stay.

Great place to stay. Excellent staff and the food is fantastic.

Good location for northern lights viewing.  Hot tubs were nice and they provided robes.  Breakfast was great!  Rooms were small with nice decor.

On the positive, this hotel seems quite new and is very clean.  Customer service was not as good.  Additionally, while they had hot tubs, you have to pay to use a robe and towel for the hot tubs.  If I had to do again, I might have just drove and stayed in Borgarnes.  We picked this hotel because it was closer to the lava cave and glacier tours we were taking the following day.

Nice hotel but....

Wonderful hotel

The most wonderful location! Quaint and Quality are the words I would use to describe this hotel. Boutique style. Staff was excellent, friendly and extremely knowledgeable of area. Mikki the dog was a lovely surprise and super cute. Food both for breakfast (included with room) and dinner were expertly prepared. We watched the Northern Lights from our bed and then took photos in the parking lot and all around the grounds. Loved the hot tubs!!Would return and stay again. Highly recommend

This property did not live up to my expectations- I expected it to be much nicer based on pics and reviews. Not only were the bathrooms small (as mentioned in many other reviews) but the sinks were so tiny and so low, and at such an odd angle, that it was impossible to wash my face without my feet and the floor getting soaked. There was no counter space in the bathroom. Unfortunately, we stayed there on a rainy day, and it just wasn’t the type of room. You really wanted to spend a lot of time in.On a positive note, we did have dinner there one evening, and it was excellent, both the food, the service, and the setting.

Lovely updated hotel with beautiful views and great staff. The buffet breakfast was a wonderful way to start the day and the restaurant views are amazing. The hot tubs were an unexpected surprise and we used both nights of our stay. Room was on the small side but suited our needs and the beds were very comfortable

After driving just over 4 hours from the Westfjords, we realized that we left behind a carry on.  We approached the front desk and asked if he could help us reach the inn we were staying at.  It turns out the police had our bag and he called the police and asked them to put the bag on Iceland air cargo and we could have it by the time we went to Reykjavik, the next day!  He ended up being the assistant manager.  Sure enough we got our bag when we arrived in Reykjavik.  We were soooo thankful that we did not have to make the drive back to the Westfjords to pick up our bag!  Service was fantastic, the food was excellent in the hotel with great views, and the hot spring bath was relaxing.  Theodore at the restaurant also gave us excellent service!  Stay where the locals stay! : ) Thank you Arnar for your outstanding service!

As a farmer living in Iceland I quite enjoyed seeing so many local ingredients on the dinner menu!
The beds were so comfortable, it was hard to leave! 
Breakfast has a lot of great options, local ingredients there as well and coffee machine in the bedroom was a nice touch

Perfect stay

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Varmaland. The property was beautiful.  The room was nice and spacious.  The bathroom was very small.  The sink was so small that it was almost unusable.  The shower did have a curtain; however, the shower itself was so little that the curtain kept rubbing up against you.  We loved the breakfast and it was included with the stay.

We booked this due to location ( needing a place after exploring Snaefellsnes Peninsula) and were pleasantly surprised with how nice this hotel was. The staff were pleasant and the hotel was very clean with rooms being newly furnished and decorated. Our room still had the faint smell of sawdust. The rooms were small as expected but perfectly adequate for our needs. A nice touch was the hotel had fans available upon request, because even though the temps were cool outside, the majority of the places we stayed were hot at night even with the windows opened. Breakfast was included and the restaurant served a variety of options. We found it better than most hotel breakfasts. The views showcased the countryside. When we arrived, the front desk let us know the pool was open which surprised us as it was pretty cool outside. Attached is a photo of the lovely pool area with hot tubs, cold bath, and sauna.Overall a great respite from traveling.
