This place has some nice bonuses that you don't find everywhere else. For example, there was playing dogs and some cute rabbits. And the best of all, this farm makes it's own ice-cream, and has a cute little shop. 

You should really take a walk along the pseudocraters and the water, it's just across the road. We saw a lot of different birds, some of them with babies. 

The room was spacios. Breakfast ok, nothing special. 

The neighbour-farm offers horseriding. 

A good stop

Our stay at Skutustadir Guesthouse was great from the moment we arrived. We were checked in and shown to our room by a very friendly receptionist. We liked that they asked all guests to remove their shoes before entering the house and we could tell that the place was kept immaculately clean. Our room was a perfect size and although we had shared bathroom facilities there was never anybody else around when we needed to use them.

We were able to cook our own evening meal at the guesthouse across the car park and were also impressed with the facilities there. Our morning breakfast was served in the main house and was very nice with plenty of variety. 

We really enjoyed our stay at Skutustadir and would definitely stay again if we were in the Myvatn area.

Great welcome and facilities 

A simple, very clean guesthouse with a great breakfast and a very friendly staff. The communal bath is also no problem. The peninsula with a round trip is for you in the evening. You can make sandwiches from the breakfast buffet for a premium price.

Liked · The family run the property with personal care and attention, the self catering facilities are good and able to accommodate 2 or 3 separate people cooking simultaneously. There is a communal dining and lounge area which encourages people to chat and share travel stories. The breakfast is excellent as  much is local food and some produced by the farm. Milk and eggs from the animals. Jam, marmalade and delicious chilli jam made by the owners, smoked trout from next door smokers, the local dark bread from the bakery. Home made ice cream and Angelica tea. There are several separate buildings which have all been added progressively so some more modern than others. We were there in a major snow and wind storm and had contacted them the day before we were due to stay to ask if we could come a day earlier so we didn’t get stuck on the east side of the mountains in Eglisstadir. They were helpful and other people had to stay extra nights because the roads were closed. Additionally people were brought to the farm by the rescue services having gone off the road in the storm and needing somewhere safe to stay. They took it all in their stride. Because we were stuck for 3 days, they did clothes washing for us. It is directly opposite the pseudo craters and a good information centre so enabling you to walk around before the coaches start arriving.

Disliked · The only less positive comments were that we were in the oldest buildings with private bathrooms and they did feel a bit dated but we’re still very comfortable. Also, like all places around there the smell of sulphur in the hot water was quite intense…maybe worse than other areas of Myvatyn due to the location.

Great, social, friendly farm stay

It's a family farm in a fantastic setting, the manager who was super kind to look after us, they gave us a room that we loved, and the bathroom that you could see, the bathroom with the best views I've ever had, the breakfast like everyone else in the basic Icelandic guesthouses but with products from their farm, we'll have quality.

Genius is a genius.

Really enjoyed my stay.  Guesthouse is affordable in an expensive lake area.

Well located on main road 15min to main town.  Lovely walks from hotel.

I stayed in a shared bathroom guesthouse.  Really comfortable.
My rooom was large and super comfortable, with shared facilities (kitchen, lounge, bathroom) being very clean and only shared with a few rooms.

Staff were lovely 

Bfast was lovely for a small guesthouse.  They really tried to have lots of house made options.

Restaurant at hot  egg l next door was also a good affordable dinner option if not cooking

Lovely stay, clean, comfortable affordable and friendly

We arrived pretty late and struggled at first with finding the right building, as there are quite a few businesses/guest houses in the "small village of Skutustadir," so the one you are looking for is the one with welcome sign stating "Skutustadir 2b" and milk cans right in front of it ! :)

There is the guesthouse (this where there are some rooms and shared bathrooms, also where we had stayed in) and then once you drive behind that building there is a parking lot  with more  individual rooms/separate cabins, and also the building where reception is located, adjacent to the breakfast area where the wonderful locally sourced food is served in the morning. The family that is handling the Farm are super nice and friendly people. I wish we had a chance to try their ice cream (they have a store on the spot) but it was already closed and we were too full in the evening to try it either way - but FYI they are selling homemade ice cream on the spot! Everything we have eaten during breakfast was top quality - probably best quality breakfast we had in the entire Iceland - their "lava bread" baked in the ground was delicious, I have tried it in many occasions on this trip but theirs was absolutely the best! :)

The guestroom we stayed at was cozy, no TV but WiFi worked great - the only complain I would have is, which is not to the owners but to the guests, depending on whom is also staying in the other rooms with you it may have some noise issues - we visited during the time a family from Italy arrived and they just completely ignored the fact that not only they arrived at 10PM and there are other people in the rooms too but they just spoke out loud until they finally went to sleep too - really not cool but again it's on the guests end and not the owners - we stayed at another hotel during the 10 nights in Iceland and didn't have that issue so if you are a light sleeper keep that in mind that you may want to upgrade the room and sleep in the separate building where you don't gamble with what type of guests you may be sleeping next door ;)

You are right on Lake Myvatn so all of the nearby attractions are super short drive, and some even walking distance - perfect area, I wish we actually stayed here 2 nights right than the other one at Husavik... 

TIP: you are pretty close still to Námafjall area, so if you remember the smell there that's what you will smell when you take a hot shower - the water here smells intensively :) at first I thought the showers are nasty but then it hit me, it's the sulfur that is present in the water and leaves those marks - didn't mind it at all, just letting you know about the smell so you dont freak out something bad is happening haha

One of my fav stays in Iceland!

We stayed in rooms with private bathrooms, and we could also use the shared kitchen, located in the building next door. Super, sweet, salty breakfast.

Advised!

The guesthouse is located at the back of the hotel. We stayed 2 nights in the reception structure, with the advantage (notable given the bad weather) that you didn't have to go out to eat breakfast. Four bedroom with double bed and castle bed in front of the bathroom (uncomfortable). Large bathroom, complete with everything. Breakfast ok. Parking in front of the room. On the positive side. Negative the castle bed in a dark area in front of the bathroom.

Quiet, clean, fair price

We stayed one night in this apartment and had a room for 3 people with 3 single beds. The room was large, very clean like the rest of the apartment. A common kitchen well equipped. Ideal location very close to the lake and the pseudo craters. The buffet breakfast was varied with local homemade products. We enjoyed ourselves. In short, a great stay.
