Rio Dulce

Really nice and special place in the mangroves close to Rio Dulce. 
We spent 3 nights here and were able to stop directly from our boat ride from Livingston. You can get a free pick up from Rio Dulce as well. 

The place is quite remote but because of that also a really nice experience. You can hear the howler monkeys far away in the mornings (or take one of the free kayaks for sunrise across the river for even louder howls). 

The beds all have mosquito nets which are nicely hung (so they don’t end up in your face) and each bed has a small safe in the room. Bathrooms were clean. 
Personally I had more comfortable beds around Guatemala but I’m a pit picky as well. 

The owner is from Switzerland and really nice. He also helped us a lot with a problem we had. 

The place is quite remote and lights are turned off  at 10pm. So don’t expect a party place. But you can buy beer and really nice (with an international influence) food at the hotel/hostel. 

I would recommend spending 3 nights so you can cruise around the lake with a kayak, visit a gorge and hot (!) waterfall and the castle nearby.

Remote and special stay in the mangroves outside Rio Dulce

I loved that place in the mangroves, the food was delicious, and the hospitality was very friendly, and I stayed one more night, so I loved being in that nature.

In the middle of nature

Perfect hotel! A haven of peace on the river Dulce. Perfect reception, staff availability at the top and the menu of the restaurant is exceptional. Everything feels good! We stayed there for two nights but the desire to stay there for a long time was present! Go there with your eyes closed, you will not regret it at all!

Perfect Paradise on Earth

Beautiful, relaxing  hotel. Super clean. Very accommodating and friendly. Hosts Anne and Leo are the best. All the staff went out of their way to make us feel Welcome. The food was amazing. Can't wait to return!

Nice hotel in the middle of nature. Pick up by boat in Rio Dulce. It is run by a Swiss and there is European food in the restaurant. The hotel is well developed and there are free kayaks. Prices in the restaurant are a little high and if you want to leave the hotel once in a while you have to pay 25 quarters per person (in and out)

Nature

The Casa Perico Hotel is a small paradise in the heart of the mangrove. The staff is really great. It is the perfect place to rest, to be in the heart of nature to listen to the sound of birds and rain. You can even see a hummingbird! Special mention of the Pina Colada and breakfast Chapin!

A nice little hotel in the mangrove Jungle of Lago Izabal. Organized by a swiss owner everything worked out great for us, highlight is to go out with the little canoes to the floating raft where you can hang out, swim, sunbathe, enjoy the breeze and see some nice buildings around the lake. great experience overall!

Casa Perico - Hotel in the Mangrove Jungle

We stayed at the Hotel Casa Perico from late July to early August. It was just beautiful! We couldn't find the hair in the soup. Everything was perfect. Great accommodation, tasty food, very friendly staff, everything in a breathtaking environment in the middle of the rainforest. We can recommend Casa Perico 100%.

Just nice.

You need to get picked up by their boat to get there from Rio Dulce(main land?)(round trip included in price). We stayed one night with the possibility of extending. However once we got there we realized there’s not much to do. Yes, they have kayaks(2-3?) and a small little row boat. But if they are being used you’re pretty much stuck there. There’s no hikes available or a place close to swim(without a boat). The owners aren’t really going to go out of their way to sell you stuff or attend to you. Whenever we wanted to order something we felt awkward since they were either reading or “half napping”. I mean it wasn’t a problem for us but I read previous reviews. It’s a very “sure order something or don’t vibe”. Their breakfast and dinner was better than expected but a little pricey for an average backpacker. If you want to go back to the island it’s 25 round trip. We stayed one night and enjoyed our day swimming and exploring with the row boat. 

Nice place but not much to do if the boats/kayaks are taken 

Would have given 5 stars, but the walls in the hotel are so thin, that you hear your neighbors and if they like music at odd hours (late night or early morning) will offset the otherwise relaxing atmosphere. Friendly owner and staff, good food, free canoes, ...
