Guesthouse Marknagil

I've traveled to the Faroe Islands the past three summers and stayed at the Undir Fjalli guesthouse. The staff are friendly and very accomodating, which makes this place tops on my list. Nothwithstanding, my room had a spectacular view of the harbor and the entire city. The room was also very spacious, and I liked the convenience of having a guest kitchen downstairs. When I'm in the Faroes, the Undir Fjalli is my home away from home.

Stayed here as I could not find another bed in Torshavn. It was as basic as expected given this is usually student housing. It is linked to the Guesthouse Marknagil 5 minutes walk away, and this is where you check-in and have breakfast (which is adequate). The best thing about the stay was Willi, who runs both establishments in the summer. He was very friendly, helpful, generous with his time, and gave me great advice about things to do and see - great guy!

Very basic, but hot and powerful shower and great front of house attention

A Home Away From Home

Because this normally are the living quarters of students you cannot expect much luxury: a bed, a desk and a simple shower and toilet, shared with the inhabitants of one other room. Ask for a room overlooking the city of Torshavn and you have a nice view towards the old harbour etc. (At the other side of the hotel the view is less interesting.) In about 15 minutes you walk down to the centre of Torshavn.
The breakfast (buffet) is very good, and the personnel is very nice and informative.

good enough

I waited too long to book places to stay ahead of my recent trip to the Faroe Islands. This guesthouse in Torshavn was one of the only places with rooms available. It's okay but overpriced. It's basically a dormitory and I felt like I was at boarding school or summer camp. I was by myself and wasn't in my room that much so I didn't care but it was a bit pricey. Some of the nicer hotels in Toshavn aren't much more expensive than this. I stayed in a B&B on Sudoroy the next night and it was so much nicer and cheaper. Overall I'd give this 2.5 stars. It's serviceable but nothing special. They advertise as a cheap room with great breakfast. I didn't see the value and I skipped the buffet breakfast so I can't comment on that.
