Cubacan Trinidad 500

The place is great for a family outing, a bit out of the city but still close enough to visit regularly. The staff make you feel at home, the food hits the spot, and there's a good variety to keep things interesting. You'll leave planning your next trip back.

Trinidad 500 was a good choice on our part. I felt really at home there. The staff were friendly and so good humored, it made being there a fine experience. We only stopped for drinks and to take a break, but it was time well spent

A great place to stop for a drink

We were happy overall with our stay at this hotel. We found the room was clean, comfortable and spacious. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was basic but adequate. The location is very good because it is quiet and you can easily walk into the centre of Trinidad. It is too far to walk to Playa Ancon.

Good location

We stayed here for four nights and the first two nights were great. The room was big and clean, although there were a few mosquitos, but generally we were fine with it. The hotel is located outside of the town centre (about a 20 minute walk). This may be a problem for some but we actually liked the stroll into town.

The issues came after a heavy thunderstorm on the third day of our stay. The hotel reception is open planned with no front doors, meaning that rain can easily come in. When we arrived back after the thunderstorm, not only was the hotel reception completed flooded, but our room was flooded too. What I found a bit odd was that no one was doing anything about it. it was only after we pointed out that our room and reception was flooded that action was taken.

We were offered a new room and the one we eventually changed to had issues with water. The toilet didn't fill up after flushing, in the middle of the night the water didn't flow from the taps and one time we didn't have any cold water just hot, making it impossible to have a shower. The issues were ultimately fixed, but with the amount we paid per night you would expect these basics to be working at the very least.

It's a shame because I really wanted to give this hotel a good review as the people who work there are so friendly and nice. For example, they don't have a laundry service but the lady on reception said that she would take and my clothes and wash them at home which I thought was very sweet of her.  

Overall, with the amount you pay per night the hotel does not represent good value, but could be a lot better if the basics are taken care of.

Has potential but basics let it down

Nice hotel located out of the city. We asked for a taxi at the reception desk and waited 30 minutes after the promised hour. That's the communist system ..........
The room was large and clean, with a working A/C but we had to fight against the mosquitoes and we lost the battle.......
Breakfast was OK, very simple.

Far away from the city center

This place is shockingly bad. Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!

We wanted to secure a place in Trinidad before we arrived because we were concerned about all of the hotels being booked. There were no options available online by the time we went to book so we ended up with this hotel.

We changed rooms 3 times and still moved out after the first night. The replacement accommodation was cheaper, cleaner, better located, with better light and furnishings and food. The staff were also more friendly.

The staff were not that interested in helping us change rooms but they eventually helped us. Our three room options were all bad - from bugs, to noise, to no windows, to dirt, to malfunctioning lights, to offputting bathrooms... pick your poison. 

There is no value for money and this place should be completely gutted and fumigated. New staff would also help.

So glad we were able to escape! What a mistake.
