Xiamen Jia Home International Youth Hostel

The hostel is not easy to find although the train from the main land stops near it. However, once you are there you can't leave. Friendly staff, amazing terraces and quiet at night. Close to the bus stops where you can take any bus to go to the commercial area in a short period of time and to the sea. The area where the hostel is located is perfect if you don't want crowd of people. There are shops, bars, restaurants and also banks if you need them too. I would definitely go back there for a longer stay.

Stayed at this hostel during Oct 2011 holidays. Despite the fact that it's a little difficult to spot, and actually walked passed it twice before noticing where it was, the place itself is very clean and comfortable. The hostel used to be a former children's nursery before it was turned into a youth hostel and you can still see the elephant slide in the front yard. 
The reception area and common breakfast room/ TV area are quite small but with big terrace windows and alot of sunshine and fresh air. 
The 4-bed dorm room has its own shower/toilet/sink which is quite convenient and the rooms are clean with an open view ( although the windows are small ).
A 24 hour Mcdonald's is less than a 5 min walk away with the MTR station located just adjacent. Quite easy to get to the town center/ university and beach with buses running frequently from in front of Mc's.
All in all, a great clean place to stay in, with comfortable rooms and a hot shower. Would recommend and would stay again if happen to be in Xiamen, Guangdong.

This hostel is clean, inexpensive and has friendly staff. They let me check in early and were lenient on my deposit as it was my last days in Ch. It is centrally located although maybe somewhat inconvenient if youre not comfortable with taking the bus to get around th city. The bus stop is close though, and the city easy to navigate in. Wifi could be better here (and Ch generally..)

good value for low price

Let me say first that this is not the first time I've stayed with them. This hostel closes at 12am, so therefore you absolutely have to check in before midnight or else they eat your deposit. In my case, my deposit was the full charge for my reservation. I've stayed at another youth hostel elsewhere in China, and there you can still get your room late, you just complete the check-in process in the morning.

In addition, their service was terrible. Transportation is unreliable in China and they made no effort to accommodate to my situation. All they wanted to know if I am cancelling (which means they get to keep the money).

Stay away if you can. There are other YHA in Xiamen.
