In April, I arranged to stay two nights in June. Originally I booked through booking.com but cancelled that reservation and booked through bbcanada since the latter indicated fee was $180 including taxes. I didn't realize there was a $9.50 service fee to book through bbcanada though. I confirmed the reservation with the male owner and the price.

We took the day of arrival off work so we could get there right at check in time, 2 pm. I phoned to get explicit directions and a lady answered the phone. She said she wasn't there as she was told I was arriving late. I never said I would be arriving late and the website indicates check in time to be 2 - 6 pm.

We went out to supper and arrived about 6:30 pm. The woman led me upstairs to a very small bedroom with no desk. She did not show us around the house and we were trying to figure out if we were expected to stay in that tiny room from 6:30 pm onward with nothing to do. 

The website had showed pictures of a lounge and a porch and seemed to indicate that the owners welcome you into their house. There was no welcome for sure. I asked her about TV but she indicated she was watching it and it was all French.

When we got upstairs, she handed me towels and then began speaking about price, indicating it was $198 cash. I tried to show her my reservation and explain that I had confirmed the price of $180 (plus my $9.50 service fee) with the gentleman I phoned. She kept saying it was not possible, she didn't understand why I booked through BB Canada, that they only use booking.com, and that booking.com doesn't include the taxes. I gave up trying to explain that bbcanada DID include the taxes. I was willing to suck up the extra $18 if the room had been nice or we had a place to sit in the eve, but there was nothing. We carried our luggage out and left. 

I had thought that we could do puzzles on the porch if the weather was bad, which it was. But she never showed us around anywhere. We certainly weren't made to feel welcome, until we told her we were leaving.

It turned out that she was not the owner. I would strongly recommend if you stay here that you speak to the owner first, make sure they are there, and ask them what areas of the house you can use.

We chose this B&B because of its good ratings. Upon arrival we were disappointed since the bathroom was dirty. It didn't get cleaned during our two-day stay! Also, there was no shampoo provided and it wasn't offered that we could take fresh towels if need be. Our room was ok yet there were a few long hairs on the floor which didn't give us the feeling that it was cleaned properly beforehand.
In conclusion I have to say that the place is good if you visit Ottawa because it's easy to get there. Also, the breakfast was nice. If you care for cleanliness however, I wouldn't recommend it.

We spent one night at the clutter place on the eve of the half marathon. We were a little worried about the potential noise because the rooms are close and the bathroom is shared but in the end we slept very well and had a good time. The bunk is very good: closed and new. The house is usually clean and the owners are friendly. We feel at home given that it is a real neighborhood house with a nice garden that allows for nice reading. On the other hand, once again there is a certain proximity. It's not the kind of place or the owners are outside a motel with guest rooms like a hotel; it's a real house and it has a final $1599 charm.

Simple but comfortable

We spent three non-consecutive nights in this room, and Daniel showed little care for us, preparing a rich and tasty breakfast, and always giving us good advice - plans, maps, itineraries, addresses, etc. We felt like family.

If you are looking for a quiet, clean and very welcoming place to stay near ottawa, this is it. While it is not be located in Ottawa (it is about 15 minutes from downtown, in regular traffic!!), it really pays off to be away from all the noise. It is really like the countryside, very very quiet and relaxing, just what most people need during their vacation. 

This Gite is a family operated business, it feels like visiting friends. The hosts are very gratious and welcoming, they go out of their way to make you feel at home. The breakfast they offer is well-knwon and quiet apprecaited with all guests and they make their best to accommodate even special diets (my family is vegan). Most of it is home-made and you can definitely taste the difference.

The Gite has three rooms tha share a bathroom, and if you are on a tichgt schedule, well, you have to take that into cosideration---there can be some waiting time if all guests wake up at the same hour. It happened to us, although we only stayed one night. Nevertheless, the bathroom, as well and everything else, was very very clean. 

The rooms are very small, but extremely confortable, our kind was a double, although we were expecting a queen size (when you are pregnant and co-sleep with a toddler it does make a diference). As in most houses, they are not sound-proof, so if you are a light sleeper, it could make a difference.

I should not forget the gite is child-friendly, which is important for families, right???

All in all, it was a wodnerful experience, and if we need somewhere to sleep in Ottawa again, this is definiletely where we are going-- it is a home away from home.

Short, but sweet

Daniel is a natural host, approachable and knowledgeable as well as being very good company.

We looked forward to our delicious breakfast, and noted that our host took care to offer us something new for breakfast on every day of our visit.

I would certainly recommend Gite de Brouage over a hotel. Other reviewers have mentioned the shared bathroom (which is not shared with the family) and we had it to ourselves when we stayed.  The level of comfort, welcome and attention far outweighs the need for a separate bathroom.

We decided to book due to the close proximity to Gatineau Park - as winter visitors, we were keen to make the most of the skiing in the park, and the Gite is indeed a short drive from the park boundaries.   

It is not like staying in a hotel, it's like staying at a friend's house who is pleased to have you to stay.  If you like to travel then you will have something in common with your hosts.

Home from home, and close to everything you need

A friend and I stayed at Le Gite de Brouage for two nights this past September. 

We were greeted by a very friendly host. He and his wife were very helpful and accommodating. We stayed in a cozy room with two twin beds, surrounded by towering bookcases (the lady is a writer, I believe). We were delighted with the made-to-order breakfast. Fresh croissants, homemade jam and tasty omelettes were just a few of the treats we were presented with.

Le Gite is in a residential neighbourhood, and considering the fact that we didn't have a car, we might have been in trouble. However, the host was very kind and offered to bring us to the nearest bus stop, which brought us right to downtown Gatineau and Ottawa.

We had a really nice experience here and enjoyed the warm welcome and hospitality of the hosts.
