I slept in hostels in Asia for less money and more convenience. Chinese hotel, cleanliness is not entirely acceptable, starting with me being given a room that gives a hallway that gives way to the street where that hallway is passed by everyone, the window there with which no curtain opens or window, not giving me confidence to leave my things, then I find a cockroach in the bathroom, no toilet paper left, the most uncomfortable bed that I slept in my entire trip through Laos and Cambodia and finally, communicating that batt is what I know, everywhere, darkness at night, insecurity and many rats. I love that if you stand out, it is the only ability of receptionists, as well as of our own boys, to leave the worst girl in the room after the night, not leaving the worst girl in the room before they go out, and finally, to leave us out of the room after the first hour of the day, we have to check out the buses and check out the alarm clock.

We weren't expecting much more than a bed and a toilet for the $9 per night we paid (and AC - otherwise $6) That's pretty much what we got. Also TV and a powerful (and always cold-even if you turn to red and wait 2 mins as it said in the bathroom) shower. Who needs hot water in Battambang-a cold shower for all the sweat is perfect! Location was great-5 mins walk from the centre on reasonably well lit streets and only 2 mins from a pretty big supermarket thats open late. The room is clean enough but the big, solid and comfortable wooden beds must be a nightmare to move so they haven't been! I wouldn't suggest spending too much time looking under them or closely at them. It also looked like a plastic bag was filling a hole in our netting over the window, either way it did a good job cause no creatures got in except the odd ant in the bathroom. It is noisy. You are by the taxi rank, food market etc but put in ear plugs and think of all the 50cent beers you can have for the saving on the room. Alternatively drink some 50 cent beers and i'm sure you'll sleep fine. Only thing i'd say is bring a sheet or big towel cause they only give you a fleece blanket and nobody wants that in Battambang heat. We also bought toilet roll as there was none. Also from a previous review the flip flops in the bathroom are shower ones because you're essentially showering over the toilet - they're not someone else's. The rooms are really pretty clean for what you pay. Really!

Price makes it good but bring a sheet

For $4 couldn’t expect luxury, but some confusion with the room we had booked and what we were actually allocated. We asked for 5 double beds for 5 people in the 6 bed room but ended up in 2 rooms with 2 double beds, no air con, someone else’s flip flops in the bathroom. But friendly staff, good location & they kindly held our bags for the day of check out. 

Cheap but not so cheerful 

It's hard to do with a double room at $7 in the middle of the season, when everything is clean, the sheets and towels provided, clean water available as often at the front desk, and the staff incredibly friendly to give us any kind of information. I'm sorry I can't put a 4 or a 5 anywhere else, but unfortunately we had a pretty annoying problem the morning of our departure... No more water. No bathroom, no shower, no hunting.

Very good hotel, cheap; sorry about the water problem...

I actually came here to check the rooms for one night but ended up in staying here for a week. The hotel’s service  is much more than I expected. English speaking staff, 24 hour reception. Fast wifi, provide toiletries. Have hot water shower. 

Very decent hotel 

Six dollars a night for a double room, no air conditioning but a fan, hotel with elevator, rooms clean, no breakfast, a little far from restaurants, very noisy from 5:00.

Good for the price

Friendly staff. Good location. Big room with big and confortable bed. Strong shower with hot water. The bad things were the WIFI that did not work at all and no toilet paper.
For the price it is amazing. 6$ for double room with private toilet

Really good for the price

Clean room with air conditioning and a fairly large fan has a $7 elevator. 10 minutes walk from the centre, neighborhood with little interest. Very pleasant, smiling and very helpful welcome.

Good value for money

The First Hotel is not a Holiday Inn type of business, but is a typical Asian two star... clean rooms and respectful service. If there isn't one already outside, they will arrange a tuk-tuk with a few minutes notice. There are several restaurants within a few minute walk and a great coffee stand just across the street. There are also several bus ticket sellers on the next block and many companies will pick you up at the hotel itself. 
Note: the "hot" water is solar heated.  If you want to be sure, shower in the evening!

GOOD LOCATION & PRICE

For the amount we paid, I think around $6 per night double room private bathroom, we were very happy. This is an absolute bargain compared to what we have paid elsewhere. The room was big and cleaned daily with fresh towels and bottled water. The staff at reception were very helpful and allowed us to book an extra night very easily. There is a free tuk tuk into town in the evening as the cluster of restaurants is about a ten minute walk away, so not far. They will offer a free pick up from the bus which is helpful.
