Fantastic
7 reviewsStayed 3 nights at the Paul Bauer Farm in June and had a memorable time. We had a one bedroom "apartment" with kitchen & large balcony overlooking pastures and the Alps...just beautiful. Since we were a family of 3 adults, we were provided an extra bedroom, with sink only, down the hall for our 22 year old son. Good standard bathroom and nice fully equipped kitchen in the apartment. The only downside to the apartment was that there is no living room. There is a good size banquette in the kitchen and a long narrow balcony, but no lounge area. Lovely & friendly three generation family hosts, who are there if you need them for anything, but who also give you a great deal of privacy. This is a centuries old working farm and the rooms/apts are above the working barn where the cow milking is done, so there is the sweet smell of farm living, which may be a surprise to those who aren't used to country living. Even though the original farm is old, the interior is very clean and rustically modern. Also the family does have small children who spend their time outside playing and were a bit loud when we were there, but after the first few minutes, we came to really enjoy the sounds of a happy family in the Alps. Mind you, they weren't so loud that we couldn't hear the cow bells or the constant sound of the real cuckoos; but for those looking for total peace & quiet, it will be interrupted at times by children playing and feeding their small farm animals. The "Haus" was a bit hard to find, even with a stellar GPS system, so we had to ask another local farmer and he directed us with no problem. We paid 73 euros per night for 3 adults without breakfast. Since we had a nice kitchen, we opted to do our own breakfast & dinner with bread from the bakery & food supplies bought at one of the many markets around St. Wolfgang. The hosts will arrange bread delivery and other fresh farm items if you want. Also, the hosts will do laundry for a reasonable fee, but we opted to wash out a few things in the sink and hang them on the generous drying rack on the balcony. A great farm house with beautiful traditional interior and lots of farm life to be enjoyed. You will really come away with a real taste of what Austrian farm life is like.
