YHA Borth

Loved our stay here. Super-welcoming hosts and the attention to detail was inspiring. Spotless rooms, showers and toilets, and cosy communal areas. Dramatic sea views, beach across the road, great veggie breakfast - perfect stay thanks.

Highly recommend! John & Jane are fantastic hosts, nothing is too much trouble. Home away from home. Having the sea quite literally on the doorstep, enabled the kids (and adults) to really relax. Local activities also really affordable family days out. Places to visit: King Arthur's Labyrinth & Kite feeding sanctuary.

Excellent 3 night stay Thursday 28/03/2024 - Sunday 31/03/2024 at this very friendly Youth Hostel run by John and his wife. First class cooked breakfast and John is very knowledgeable about the local area having been running this place for 10 years. Very friendly and chatty. Much better experience than staying in some impersonal soulless hotel. No issues parking at this time of the year. The ancient 4500 year old fossil forest on the beach and exposed at low tide is a stones throw south of the property. Thanks again and we hope to revisit you in due course. Keith/Ian/Gareth. Within easy reach of the Devils Bridge and Pumlumon Fawr 752m Cambrian Mountain with superb views.

Excellent service - management team couldn’t be more helpful - highly recommended.  Great place to stay & on the seafront.  Food is very good - breakfast is excellent.  

The Railway Inn is a cracking real ale pub & the locals are very friendly.
The tandoori is good but need to book & take own alcohol. 

I have had two short stays at this Youth Hostel and both times have thoroughly enjoyed it!

This was my first trip away from home, that I went to with friends & it was super easy to find with it being near the train station. The views from the rooms are fantastic - both times we got sea views, which was just amazing to wake up to in the mornings!

The facilities are top notch, kitchen fully kitted out, opportunities for breakfast and self-catering meals. Drying room to dry wet clothes from a swim in the sea, literally just across the road. The games room, a particular favourite, kitted with table top football and a pool table. 

John, the host, is a genuine really nice chap. Happy to help, the first time round he helped a friend get her splinter out of her finger, so felt super reassured by his abilities too. He gave us free credits to use for the pool & football table, would make conversation as you walk past, but not too much as to make you feel uncomfortable!

Both time the guests have also been lovely, often keep to themself but acknowledge you with a friendly hello as you walk by. 

If you're considering going, no matter what age, I would highly recommend this youth hostel.

I went at the age of 16, with 2 other friends, both 17 & we all would 100% go again. Although Borth is pretty limited, the train station (10 minute walk away) is relatively cheap to catch the train to Aberyswyth, a bit more of a social-uni town for you to explore!!!!

Out of all 6/7 youth hostel's I've gone to over the last year, this one is by far my favourite. Would recommend to anyone.

Stayed for one night with some friends to play golf on the course located just next-door. Really friendly and welcoming hosts who couldn't do enough to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Comfortable beds, good clean and well maintained facilities together with an excellent breakfast in the morning. Superb service and value for money.

Friendly and welcoming to all guests, clean and safe, fabulous choices at the bar and great breakfasts. YHA Borth is recommended as a base. Close to the beach, trains on the amazing Cambrian line within 10 minutes’ walk.

Stayed with kids, for a hiking trip. very clean, well maintained by the couple managing the hostel. Right on the beach, and shops nearby. Close to Aberystwyth and other attractions. 
We had a late addition to our group,  the manager accommodated and made sure all had a comfortable stay

I couldnt praise this lovely YHA more highly. It is spotlessly clean,  has welcoming and friendly owners and I had my own room with amazing views over the sea. It is also right  next to the golf course and has lots of parking. Very nice self catering kitchen

Great place, as detailed in others' reviews, and is "ahead of the curve" as it doesn't use unhealthy products such as air-freshners or scented washing powders, usually used to cut corners or cover bad smells, as it doesnt need to. It is cleaned and aired naturally.

Fantastic welcoming place to stay

I love this youth hostel!  The owners couldn’t be more helpful and we continue to come back for our school trips year after year.  The facilities are great- with a games room that the kids love, a tv room for relaxing, a nice clean kitchen to make tea, coffee and food and plenty of space to sit and complete follow up work with the pupils after being out all day.  The meals were super tasty with plenty to eat and a lovely cooked breakfast.   I am always impressed by the extra work done each year with attention to detail for things that help to make the stay more comfortable like charging points next to each bed which our pupils appreciate!  
Thank you for another great stay and looking forward to next year.

School trip to Borth YHA

Always love returning here, hosts are top notch friendly and very accommodating, always super high standard of service with a life affirming positivity and ultra professional re cleaning and fantastic facilities; great location with the beach on your doorstep, sanddunes to one side and cliff walk to the other, mountain range behind.
Gluten free breakfasts are amazing and always new extras for me to try. Thank you to the hosts for being such darlings. Great for families, walkers or solo travellers like me that love water sports.
180 degree views of beach at the front (flanked by headland each side) and 180 degree views of nature reserve and mountain ranges behind.
You feel away from it all; and yet there are great pubs not far away in the village, and theres Aberystwyth if you are looking for town life as well as beach life.
Plenty of nature of all terrain to cater to any and all of your hobbies and even the very rare sunken forest - pictured below all within short walks or 5-10min drives for the further afield places.

Best Beach Holiday and home away from home

Fantastic welcome at YHA Borth. 
We arrived at Borth, hungry and tired after a full day of working on the rocky shore.
John and Jane were fabulous hosts, supplying us with delicious food and giving us a very warm welcome.
We also made use of the classroom, which was an excellent facility for our evening presentations.
The beds were super comfy and we left with full stomachs after enjoying a superb breakfast. To top it all they also supplied us with a brilliant packed lunches. Thank you we will definitely be back.

High School Biology Field Course

There's no place like Borth, Wales to those in the know. A long history of holiday tourism has not tarnished this scrappy little seaside town and the delights or the surrounding coast/hills/bog. We had been looking for a largish place to gather our growing families for a long summer weekend and John, the manager at the independent YHA was only too happy to book us in, in pencil, onto his paper calendar for the year when I visited in December. John was a great host: the family rooms were spacious, clean, warm, and quiet; although we left the windows open to hear the crash of the waves coming from 100 feet away over the sea wall. The guest kitchens were brilliant for a large family meal we made. The local beers we could purchase topped off our evening meal before a walk to the classic "Friendship Inn" for more. In the morning his wife and he made an expansive cooked breakfast with a massive buffet of cereal and fruit. Top Marks!

A terrific stay in a bright little corner of Wales

Had a fantastic family summer break in the Borth youth hostel with my husband and two children aged 7 and 10.  Friendly staff and clean communal areas for guests to enjoy.  Full Welsh breakfast available plus cereal, toast and fruit also on offer which was great.  The beach is a stones through away from the hostel which the kids loved.   Our room had a sea view.  A lovely place to visit, I would highly recommend.
