Hotel Portmeirion & Castell Deudraeth

I traveled from Germany to Portmeirion because I watched the TV series "the prisoner". Even getting there was an adventure - driving through seemingly endless valleys and across mountains. The first thing I saw and recognised was the Chateau where I checked in. Immediatley I felt very welcome and informed by the lady behind the desk. She called me a free cab and like in the series I was brought to the hotel by a friendly driver. There my high spirits where further pushed by the goodhearted staff...and the chairs in the lobby that look like the seat of number 2. Exploring the village I felt like entering into a surreal sphere where reality and imagination floated into one. That was intensed by meeting another guest who shared my enthusiasm. He said one has the feeling that by all the bad things happening around us, here the world still is in harmony. Returning to the hotel for dinner again I felt treated like a king and dined very well with a nice view. The same at breakfast the next morning where I could watch the tide coming in. I was adviced to walk the surrounding paths in the woods which gave me beautiful views. I could have stayed there forever and when the shops opened I had to restrain myself from buying them out. In summing up: I love Portmeirion and all the good people there! Highly recommend a visit even without knowledge of the prisoner.
