20 reviews6/25-26/2017 Gleb House nr Bushmills, Northern Ireland — Nick and Sylvia- Drove from Galway to Northern Ireland stopping in Londonderry. A great walled city--walls 20 feet thick. Gleb House is a large Georgian estate home in the countryside, 5 miles to Bushmills and 10 to Ballycastle. Large rooms, beautifully furnished in traditional furniture, finely decorated sitting room, dining room, entry hall, etc. Sylvia made beautiful strawberry scones. Nick was a wealth of information and loved to talk. He guided us to the Cellar Restaurant, on the diamond in Bushmill, for a fine dining dinner — we brought a bottle of wine back home and Nick helped us drink it. Get Nick talking about politics and you'll have an evening of entertainment. Dark Hedges from Game of Thrones nearby. Went to the Rope Bridge first on Monday--a good solid two mile hike...beautiful views over the Northern Ireland rocky coast. Then to "the most beautiful little harbor in the world" Balintoy Harbor. Beautiful. Then on to the Giants Causeway. Very disappointing after a mile down and back without seeing the geological bricks...pooped. Then discovered we can take the National Herritage bus down to the end and back for €2.00!!! Yeah!! Very interesting. Bonamargy Friary ruins 6/25 in Ballycastle, next to the Ballycastle Golf Club. Stopped also at Dunluce Castle ruins. Great views from the road. This is where this impregnable Castle, surrounded by water on three sides, ended its days, when one side of the cliff collapsed taking half the Castle, kitchen and 200 servants with it. Visited Marlborough Bay--an isolated and very narrow road to get there, but well worth the visit-would be fabulous for a picnic on a nice day. Had dinner at Central, a pub in Ballycastle. We did not enjoy the village of Bushmills much, but really enjoyed Ballycastle.
