We had a great time at the only locally owned surf camp in Sri Lanka! Very well organized and great atmosphere. The location feels more authentic than the nearby surfing towns. Enjoyed surfing and yoga everyday with the flexibility to change our schedule as we wished. I am an intermediate surfer and my boyfriend is a beginner but truly accommodates all levels. Met so many other travelers and met up with them to do other activities as well. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. The staff was very kind and helpful, easy to get ahold of for questions. I would recommend supporting a locally owned surf camp and hope to come back!

I can’t speak highly enough about the layback surf retreat and would 1000% recommend this retreat!! I stayed for 2 weeks and that almost didn’t feel like long enough… Beautiful facilities, delicious food, great surf/yoga instruction, and truly amazing staff! Linda and Thilina were both fantastic…super responsive and helpful! Linda went above and beyond and was a great resource for traveling around Sri Lanka even after I left Layback (you’re the best Linda!). The entire team at layback has created a really special environment that fosters community-building and a great time out in the water! Also, I really can’t stress enough how amazing the food was!! Some of the best food I had during my travels in Sri Lanka. Thank you for everything much Layback <3

An amazing cozy place with absolutely amazing people inside

I stayed here for two weeks and totally fell in love with LayBack!

Accommodation, rooms, pool, and the entire camp location one of the best in Weligama. It is just in the center of Weligama, but at the same time, it is hidden from noisy roads and hustle and bustle. The beach is 5 minutes away, restaurants, shops and supermarkets are all within walking distance.

I liked the atmosphere similar to the retreat, where the emphasis is on surfing and yoga.

After the camp, I spent many days and evenings with the people I met there, and we became so close that we still keep in touch, like a family-style community.

And one of the biggest strengths of this camp is the instructors, if you want to learn how to surf, then this is the best place!

Thanks to every member of the staff! You create a unique atmosphere, you feel here that people put a part of their soul into what they do.

The best surf camp I have been to, this place was the highlight of my SEA trip.

There's nothing like sunrise surfing in Weligama with Layback and surf instructors are exceptionel.
Food is also among the best I had in Sri Lanka (I can recommend getting the breakfast + lunch add-on).
The Layback team was the best, thanks for making my stay amazing.
Stayed in the dorm and would recommend it for anyone who would be up for meeting new friends.

A small suggestion for improvement would be to teach turtle-roll earlier for the beginners. I could have saved myself some bruises from being smashed by the waves if I knew what to do when meeting a big wave head-on. We were also unlucky with rough conditions for the first session.

But, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone going to Sri Lanka.

I am a beginner in ocean surfing and am so glad I chose Layback as the place to start my surfing journey. The surfing instruction was top-notch with a balanced combination of theory and practical techniques. In my surf group, the coach to student ratio was always kept at below 1:3, which meant that I was given the personal attention I needed to improve. By the second day, the instructors already remembered my name, and would tell me what I had done well / needed to improve on after each wave I caught. Even with waves slightly bigger than I had expected, I felt incredibly safe the entire time I was in the ocean with the amazing Layback team, which I think was crucial for building confidence as a first-time / beginner surfer. You could tell that a lot of heart and soul, as well as love for the sport were put into the teaching. 

The rest of the camp activities were also very well organized, with yoga sessions to complement the surfing, family breakfasts and dinners for guests to get to know each other, and optional cooking and batik making classes which were all really fun. 

I stayed in a private room, which was kept very clean and cozy by the staff. There was also a dorm option for those who preferred. 

Overall, staying at Layback was an incredible experience. I am hooked on surfing now and I know I will be returning to Layback very soon!

I stayed at Layback Surf Camp for a month and it truly felt like a home away from home. The food was incredible (definitely try the choco smoothie bowl or the teriyaki tofu bowl 😍) , and the staff were so warm and attentive, always there to help with anything you needed. The surf lessons, both practical and theoretical, were tailored to each guest, and I learned so much. What really made it special was the amazing sense of community I’ve never experienced anything like it. Thank you, Layback, for such an unforgettable time!

The best surf camp I have visited so far and the best instructors Specially Sanu and Dilu. You can ask them about your mistakes and how to correct them as much as you want even in the Water without hesitation they will help you reach your maximum potential.

A great surf camp for both beginners eager to learn how to surf and advanced surfers. I really enjoyed the classes and the relaxed vibe around the camp. Everyone working there was also incredibly sweet. The room was very comfortable, and the camp is conveniently located near everything you might need in Weligama. Highly recommended!

Layback is one of the most amazing places I’ve visit! The rooms are so beautiful designed and comfortable, and the cafe offer you a big selection of wonderful food☺️ The surf instructors are so committed to teach everything they know about surfing and you can be ensure that you won’t never have a boring time in the water. Also the location of layback is perfect and are close to everything. 
I would definitely come back here again and recommend you all to do the same!!🙏🏼🏄‍♀️

I cannot say enough good things about this surf camp. The accommodations, the food, the people, all wonderful and just perfect!

The host Linda was incredibly helpful, and available to answer any questions I had including finding restaurants and tours beyond Weligama👩‍🦰.

My surf guide Anju, was extremely knowledgeable and patient with me as I attempted to improve my surfing skills. A 100% excellent instructor🏄🏽‍♂️.

The crew in the restaurant, and at the bar are so gracious, and make every attempt to make sure the food and drink are wholesome and delicious🥘🍹. 

Rooftop family dinner Saturday night 🐟 was a highlight, with scrumptious grilled fish, carries, special cocktails and a desert to finish. 

Let me not forget my comrades in surfing, as all the other travelers I encountered were warm, friendly and inviting despite the fact they were a much younger crowd❤️

Layback is incredible! I had no idea how lovely it would be before my stay, and I was thoroughly impressed. It’s super chill and super welcoming, the surf instructors really care about surfing and you get back from them what you put into your surfing, I would recommend this place to anyone hoping to improve or begin learning to surf and who wants to meet others in a welcoming and warm atmosphere
